Husker, TOK has posted it in another topic, but at present we have two credible writers basing their charges on an email from an unnamed source with no details ....the University has yet to respond, so I'm going to hold off until I get a more clear picture of the facts. From my perspective it would be seem out of character for JT and I hope it proves to be immaterial, but we shall see.....
Reading the comments after that article is pretty funny! Seriously I would imagine he has enough good will built up that this will not be a big deal. He'll apologize, admit he knew but that he didn't think at the time that the boys selling some of their own personal property was a violation. Maybe even say he asked somebody to check on it and they told him it wasn't a big deal. It will mainly slightly tarnish his sweater vest.
When last season started one of the hot topics in college football was the suspension of AJ Green of Georgia who had sold one of his jerseys. How is anyone actually going to buy that a coach or players didn't know that selling personal stuff was not allowed? Of course maybe the coach was watching film all day and the players never watch ESPN.....uh huh?
TOK, all speculation at this point....I can't imagine that the University doesn't have a handle on the situation given what transpired at year end. They are surely at present reviewing the facts and the process that transpired throughout the entirety of the situation prior to an official response. The odds-on scenario on the Buckeye boards is that they may have been an anonymous email - imagine how many emails the head of a program the size of ours gets each day and how many are crack-pots - articulating some charge or another and that Coach - by policy - forwards to Compliance to follow up. Coach may have had discussions with the players identified at which time the players looked up at the coach in all sincerity and pleaded that they would never do such a thing.....what happened after compliance was notified - if in fact they were - seems to be the missing link at this point. But my sense is, if he followed policy, delegated to compliance to follow-up, he should be clear......let's see the facts. No, it's difficult for me to imagine a scenario that puts his job at risk.....
I don't disagree but two points to be made: 1) the players involved had sold their stuff several years before the Green matter became public, 2) the players have said they were aware that they were not allowed to sell university property e.g., jerseys, shoes, helmets, balls, etc, but believed they were not under the same restrictions as it related to personal items earned and given them.....trophies and other trinkets. They did become aware of the more restrictive definition during a complicance session after the Green matter came to light......that was the point of information for which AD Smith/Compliance specifically took the blame.....at least plausible, but everybody will choose to believe what they wish.....I choose to give them the benefit of the doubt....and yes I am a bonafide hard core homer and see the world through scarlet colored glasses
Official press conf tonite 7:00 to include Pres Gee, AD Smith and JT....Tress supposedly discussed the matter with the team this morning. Those that follow player tweets say no unusual banter coming from the kids......stay tuned.
I can't imagine his job being at risk either. If he lied to the NCAA then there could be consequences, but Bruce Pearl lied to the NCAA and still has his job and only missed 8 games as a punishment. So maybe JT will miss a couple of games. I just can't see it getting beyond that, the embarasment alone if he does have to admit he knew and that the source wasn't a crackpot, will be the worst punishment for him.
I hope nothing happens....sure wouldn't want Bo to be interested in another job... 8) THE VEST TOUR COMING TO LINCOLN...FALL 2011
OSU President Dr. Gordon Gee and Athletic Director, Gene Smith will hold a news conference at 7:00 to address the allegations by Yahoo Sports!
That was quick, but I see that you AD Gene Smith is on the Basketball committee this year and is scheduled to be secluded with the rest of the committee in Indianapolis starting Wed. So no doubt he wants to get on record as saying they are going to throughly investigate or something like that, can't leave it out there for more than a week with no comment from him.
Code: .and yes I am a bonafide hard core homer and see the world through scarlet colored glasses Aw really??? It's amazing. There is always a long explanation and a willingness to give the benefit of the doubt....when it is one's own team involved. Well, it is alleged that he knew about the 5 players getting in trouble a lot earlier than we were originally told. It also says in the article that the OSU AD lobbied the NCAA hard to let the 5 play in the bowl game. I thought this was the NCAA's idea? News conference tonight...is he in real trouble?
AJ, You sure you are ready for the B10? It is lawless up here, bro. Michigan is on probation; Buckeye players are selling bowl rings to a guy who owns a friggen tattoo shop. And, at our flagship academic institution, Northwestern, they are doing things in the classroom that if done in public in Lincoln, probably would result in the participants continuing their education by correspondence course in prison. http://www.suntimes.com/4099633-417/northwestern-university-defends-after-class-live-sex-demonstration.htm You may miss the sweet and innocent days of the B12. On the other hand, there was talk about the next Skybox outing being in Chicago. Now, I've done the Chicago River boat tour and went to the top of the Sears Tower but had not heard of this tour- Weird Chicago Red Light District Sex Tour until I read this article. Stu... Terry...your Chauffeur will polishing the Kia shortly....
