This is interesting as in the past I have read that at elite Ivy League schools that a huge % of their graduating classes graduate with honors. The rationalization is that the student body overall is so elite that it wouldn't be fair to only give out honors to the top students, as most of the students would be "top students" at lesser schools. When I was in college a 3.0 ( on 4.0 scale) was an excellent GPA and kids rarely exceeded 3.5. But then the Vietnam War happened and profs felt compelled to help students maintain their deferrments so all boats rose with the tide and I suddenly started noting that kids with 3.5's were more common and many more with nearly 4.0 than ever before.
Interesting that the most recent survey of recruiters by the Wall Street Journal showed recruiters preferred graduates of the large state schools over the elite Ivy's....as I recall, something like 5 or 6 of the top 10 were Big 10 schools......of course! 8) We're not very smart, don't have any money, connections/influence, but we work like hell, very resourceful and know how to compete and thrive in large, diverse environments.....basically my interpretations of the survey conclusions. Of course there is also the possibility that all the recruiters were Big 10 grads.....like I said, we know how to compete!
Aren't the best recruiters former frat rats who know how to schmoze and booz with the best of them! Probably won't find many of those types at Elite Schools!
George, here is a link to that article. Recruiter Picks 3 of top 4 are B10. 4 of top 6 5 of top 12 6 of top 16 The top 25 include Texas A&M, Purdue, Michigan, Florida, Ohio State, Notre Dame, & Washington State. Sorry if I missed any Skybox schools.
I was really suprised at that list in that it had Texas Tech ahead of the Univ of Texas, I just can't believe that.
....sounds to me like they need to ask their affluent alums, i.e., dentists, etc to dig a little deeper next time the fund raising machine needs a little more grease!
