Why would the Supreme Court think this was a good idea: http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/01/28/alito.obama.sotu/index.html?hpt=T2 It seems pretty scary to allow special/private interests to spend as wildly as they can afford to influence politics.
that decision effectively evened the playing field regarding special interest spending... remember when campaign finance reform was all the rage?? yeah, then the dems got a candidate who raised more money and ran him against the jackass who backed the legislation on campaign finance reform.. of course, the dems backed out and let the GOP sink with the 'anchor of honor.'
I see.....2,000 wrongs will make up for it......hmmmm Man I bet it hurts when they take a retaliatory eye but it doesn't do a damned bit of good for the country.
hey speaking of that... Have you checked out any of Obama's proposed 'savings' in coming years to see how it will effect growing economies? Maybe some might even possibly be construed as 'political revenge'.... Change baby... And I didn't say it was right or wrong.... But for a while, one side held a CLEAR advantage... this makes them even. It is what it is, you're a fan of that.
Your're damned right they did....from Jan 2001 to Nov. 2006  Hit home runs too.....set us all up quite nicely.......
First of all it's against the law for foreign corporations to contribute to American elections. The idiot doesn't even know the law or what he's talking about. Second it kind of throws a monkey wrench into his plan to screw the opposition. He's been doing his best to limit the salaries of businessmen such as banks and auto execs. Now their companies can donate. I feel for the Dems. Now they'll have to get by on contributions by nearly pennyless individuals such as Hollywood airheads, George Soros, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. Oh and the President wouldn't want special interests such as trial lawyers to have any influence. And now for the main point Beleive it or not their function is not to decide whether a law is a "good idea" or not. They determine whether or not a law is constitutional. Body piercing, hot dog eating contests or voting Democratic might not be good ideas but we have a constitutional right to do them.
Constitutional. As in US Constitution. A forgotten document and the reason we are in the shape we are in today.
"the reason we are in the shape we are in today." So the deficit was already over 10 trillion when W left office and the economy was deeper in the toilet than at any time since the Great Depression. Therefore....statements like you made above need clarification I would say.
OK Dave. Big government. Oppressive taxation. Maximum federal control over the states. Are those the cornerstones of the Constitution? Did our founding fathers write that document with the idea of making all citizens entirely dependent on government? Stop acting like you don't know what's going on here. You are NOT that stupid!
Can we come up with some different excuse. Half the years Bush was in congress he had a Democratic congress and he never had a super majority like the current administration has abused. Here's a little reality http://gatewaypundit.firstthings.com/2009/11/obamas-october-deficit-larger-than-bush-deficit-for-entire-year-in-2007/
Two years out of eight that Bush was in office he had a Dem Congress. I do know what is going on here....I'm living it. Things had turned to crap by the end of W's term and now you expect a miracle cure in 12 months? Desperate times call for desperate measures. I do know the same ol....same ol is not what I would want to see as a solution. I'm not smart enough to know what it is that would work but I am willing to be patient enough to see if the new guy can get something going. 12 months aint enough to fix this godawful mess.
So unless Dave is missing this here.......... It looks like times were good until 2006... What was the change that took place? What caused this President to flip and start spending like wild? BTW-Dave, What you are 'living' is what we are all living. Interesting enough, and sadly, what you're enduring is due to decades and decades of horse **** leadership. What we may be 'living' here is a "Detroitization" of a booming economy because of a political vendetta and direct attack by our own President. The midterms can't get here soon enough.. There's so much about this past year that reminds me of my childhood years.. There was a good thing about being a child in the 70s...and that real change was right around the corner.
The same could be said about the end of Clinton's term. The dot com bubble had burst and the hoax of the 90's (Y2K, not to be confused with the hoax of the 00's climate change) had come and gone and new IT spending dried up. Add to that the economic shock of 9/11 and it's easy to see how difficult a time the Bush years were. Then add on that the greatest natural disaster in the history of the country and you wonder why things weren't worse when he left. Now with over 25% of his term over, with a super majority congress at his disposal, just what has young Barry done? Blown billions. Nothing to stop increased unemployment. Nothing in the mideast. Emboldened the assholes runnning Iran. Surrounded himself with lobbyists and tax cheats while ranting about the abuses of Wall St. Gotten lawyers for terrorists. Failed to close Gitmo. Investigated the CIA interrogation of terrorists. Set up a show trial in NYC. Vacationed in Hawaii, Newport, Yellowstone and Copenhagen, dated in NYC and called the Ky. basketball team when they got to No. 1. Desperate measures if ever there were some. You could give this clown 8 yrs. and you'd have what we had with Roosevelt. A wrecked economy and years of blaming the past administration.
And then what? My house has to sell.....and within the next three months I hope. I will lose one of the the mainstays of American retirement resource.....my home equity because the value has dropped like a friggin rock. It doesn't make sense to talk to you guys.......maybe when I read of someone here going through some of these things like so many many Americans I will chime in but until then no one seems to have a stake in it so they just sit and snipe politically......which is what is so very wrong with this country right now. Shallow political sniping and no real heartfelt substance.
In the final analysis, you really have no idea what the rest of us face in our daily lives, do you Dave.
Well George.....explain your personal health care situation.....I would be interested to hear it. Also, I would like to hear how you think it could be better.
Some people choose not to make their situation public Dave. It doesn't mean that their situation is not note worthy.
I own my own small business, fifteen employees. I provide health insurance for them, asking that they kick in a percentage of the premium. I worry about providing insurance for my family and fifteen others, several with families of their own. Our premiums go up an average of 10-15% per year. This year I have been told they are going up 31-43%. I don't know what I am going to do. I work 11-13 hours per day and for the last two years I stare at the ceiling a lot at night. So what? Tomorrow's another day.
Dave, I think what Tom said covers me pretty well... That being said, you can rest assured that my life is crippled on a daily basis because of the 'there outta be a new law' crowd. I seemingly live in a world in which the only one who wants to follow any sorts of rules is me and I am punished for it in the end. I'm simply not getting into some of the stuff, but very much along the lines of what both Tom and George said... you got no idea.
So George.....it sounds like the company I work for and I cannot afford the health care option they provide. What do you think should happen with health care in America? I have heard many GOP rebukes of Obama's focus on improving the situation but not much in the way of an alternative solution. Does the conservative right have any good ideas on what to do about it or do they follow the Ann Coulter philosophy of not really giving a ****?
