I haven't seen any evidence of this from our Florida buddies here...but even given how fickle (not Fickell) sports fans are, I'm a little surprised at the apparent venom of the backlash and how fast all the good things he accomplished in Florida are apparently cast aside by folks there. Urban Angst
what's wrong with wishing the guy happy trails and good luck?? Maybe they're concerned that florida looks like a stepping stone to tOSU job? Florida was gleeful to get him from Utah, now he's gone, get over it.
In someways it's understandable, they loved him and I mean really loved Urban Meyer and all wished him well when he left, he said all the right things...Gator for life, etc. But he left the team in a hole, the new staff is struggling, 6-6, and now he's a Buckeye saying all the right things to Buckeye fans. Have to be some sour grapes, it's only natural. I think ND fans would have been the same way with Lou Holtz had he taken another job the year after leaving ND esp a high profile job like OSU. He's maintained his elevated status by waiting quite awhile before jumping back into the So. Carolina job a previous dead end job and starting them back up the ladder.
I have read several articles from Florida along the same lines. Like Terry, it is not unusual for fans to have some sour grapes. Move on and live for the moment. Cleveland fans were pretty adamant when LeBron left and with some very pointed opinions. It's the nature of sports.
Yeah...but I think most of the backlash against LeBron was in the way he carried it out...and how dismissive he behaved towards Cleveland fans. Can these Florida fans really say that he had OSU in his sights when he left Florida last year? Come on...nobody saw this coming. I think he deserves more respect from the Florida folks for what he did for them.
When Meyer left Florida.... Jim Tressel was firmly entrenched as the Buckeye coach. Urbs didn't leave UF for OSU.....period. I certainly wish him the best and feel....as he himself said in his Ohio State acceptance speech/presser.......that "he will always be a Gator". Once a Gator always a Gator.......and it holds true here. He also has 30 million reasons why he is the new Buckeye coach and not just an ESPN sportscaster pulling down maybe .75 million...... and you would have to be an ass to see a good reason for him not to get back into coaching when he can make that kind of jack and he feels his health would permit it.
His wife is planning on opening a tattoo parlor... She'll see more of him and the team that way...   :? Sorry, just kicked my own arse after that one. 8)
Many Notre Dame fans have STILL not gotten over meyer going to the Gators..... there must be a ten topics on the BGI BB right now trashing Meyer in some way, shape or form. How many years ago was that?
I work in an industry that is predominately University of Florida Alumnus and every Gator fan I have talked to support Meyer and wish him the best. In all fairness to Gator fans the attitude toward Meyer being represented in the media or on the internet is not what I have experienced and is a small minority compared to the whole.
Of course the media and some of the idiot fans they are talking to probably are not alumni of Florida so I question the motives of the former and the ability to reason of the latter.
