I mean I read that it's nearly the 1st of Sept and you only have 5 verbals? I know your last 2 classes have been big and big time, but still 5 guys for this year so far???? You've already had your Friday Night Lights and that didn't generate very much. Is Urban planing to essentially expand what he did last year and recruit verbals from other schools? I know they are just verbals, nothing illegal about recruiting them. But if you attempt to make a living taking away other teams verbals, I would think that you would quickly become pariahs of the college coaching fraternity.
I don't think Urbs is through yet by any means and I also think there are still some large uncommitteds out there. UF has to take less this year anyway so that is a factor.
Terry, in the end I believe the Gators get quite a few guys from the Friday Night Lights. We will have a lot less commitments this year, 17-20, and I think the Gators are playing things close to their vests. At this point I don't have a lot of concern.
Terry, Texas always gets their recruits early, the Gators have waited until the last moment in prior years. I know things are different these days, but one big factor with the Gators is that we are not taking as many players as in past years and are going about things slower. I won't say that I don't have any concern, but do believe in the end we have a fine recruiting class in the end. Not a top 2-3 this year because there will be less players, but I do believe our average star rating will be pretty high. Right now I'm looking forward to kickoff!
If UF's at 5 verbals in Jan-08, I'll be a little concerned. So, latest rumor is E Moody (formerly of USC) stayed in Gville longer than planned and has cancelled his other visits - to Okla State and Texas. I'll be surprised if he transfers to UF but .... seems like there's some mutual interest.
Terry, while not a high school player Moody still puts a different picture on the Gators getting the players they need.
Terry, things have picked up for the Gators, in the last two weeks we have verbals from two 4 star corners from Florida and tonight a five star safety from New Jersey. The two corner backs moved us into the top 25 Scout rankings with only 8 verbals, Hill should move us into the top 20. I still have faith that the Gators will be in the to 5 or so after signing day.
Great to hear that decision. If the commits hold out, UF's depth at S will be great. Finley and Hill in '08, Wright and Finch in '07, and Thomas and Hornsby in '06. Of course, Finch already made the move to LBer and there's a good chance Finley and/or Hill could do the same as it seems UF is still recruiting Spencer Adams. BTW, Wright may now be the starter at FS and Finch was doing very well until a season ending injury. On the play he was injured, made a very athletic play for an INT. And, was surprised to read this take on a RB recruit: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/varsitytimesinsider/2007/09/sure-hes-not-si.html
Just.... <t>Amazing on Florida landing Hill yesterday. Brantley last year away from Texas now Hill and a SOPH running the show.</t>
