YEP...he's a Gator......Short for Lincoln Northstar Navigators.....much to my chagrin.... I graduated from Columbus Senior High......The Discoverer's.....our mascot was Chris Columbus's ship....Ironic?.....
Districts went yesterday... Good luck to Taylor. BTW my highschool's nickname was the Gators. Our school colors were picked first and we were green and white. Since I was in the first graduating class, we got to pick the name. Gators beat out Jolly Green Giants.
Thanks Gipper....he's been a late bloomer this year....he's got a sub 72 in the bag, but he hasn't found it yet....but the final push comes next week....May 28th and 29th is State here in Lincoln....on a course he's played many times (Holmes Park)..... Que Rocky theme..... BTW, the team didn't qualify for state, and he was the only one from the team that did.....Northstar golf just might miss him.....
Good luck to him, A.J. Lot of good golf ahead for him. FWIW update on Nephew Matt Van Zandt. He won the Carlton Woods Invitational a couple of weeks ago. Really nice win for him, tried to make the US Open field but just came up short, it was just the first round of qualifying not many mid-am's (over 25y/o) make it. Amateurs that make it are usually collegians who are sort of playing in the minor leagues. In fact the 2 low players were college golfers from Texas A&M. He's going to try for the Southern Amateur, the US Amateur, the Texas State Father/Son which he and his dad have finished as high as top 5, always in the top 10.
Thanks Doc and Sid.... All excuses aside....none of the top golfers in NE have broke 70 this year. The first 2/3 of the season average low 50's, wind, rain....pretty misreable conditions. Only been nice weather last 10 days. Taylor hasn't been able to keep it together for all 18 this year. It's a tale of two nines. I've got 7 days to help him setup a strategy to attack the course. It is afterall a Chess game in Nature...right?
(SIGH)...well...it is what it is....feel bad for him...probably tried to hard... http://www.ghintpp.com/nga/TPPOnlineScoring/StrokeCard.aspx?id=391&pid=17582
Golf is a tough and unforgiving game. Better days ahead for him and lots of work and dedication will get him where he'd like to go.
Gotta take the bad with the good. Sound's like he's got mostly good in front of him. Golf is that way. My buddy (terrible golfer like me) just shot a net 81 in our club's President's Cup Qualifier. He's all in the dumps because it's only the second time in 25 years he hasn't qualified. Sheesh. Gonna take me a month to try to get his head right. Me, I have a beer and forget about it. (No beer for Tayler).
He's a NaviGATOR, not a swamp Gator! Although I do find it curious that when you visit the High School Website, that while they say Lincoln North Star Navigators ...and the North Star was key for ancient Navigators, that the only mascot I saw was a Swamp Gator. Confused in Lincoln!
Ancient Navigators were not fierce, green and mean... Hey.... my wife's highschool mascot/nickname for all sports teams was.......... I'm embarassed to say it.... "the Battling Bathers" OMG
Looks like we're morphing into a different topic. Along those lines, I heard the other day that the nickname for Tufts University is the Jumbos. The story is interesting IMO: http://www.tufts.edu/home/get_to_know_tufts/history/jumbo/
