In Auburn Hills Michigan I am hearing that a woman with a concealed weapons permit took two shots at a fleeing man suspected of shoplifting. Lets see all of the hands here who think she did the right thing? Nevermind that the most in court a shoplifter might get is 15 days in the county jail and probation in lieu of the somewhat harsher death penalty. CWP turns everyone into the sheriff of Dodge City I guess..... WTF!
Dave, I hope that someday when you look in the mirror, your reflection shouts back at you that you are smug and close-minded. I can't imagine that you would have so little respect for those of us who disagree with you would accuse us of not caring about those killed and ijured in a mass shooting. I've refrained from commenting because others here have accurately expressed what I think of your accusatory tone. Regarding the woman, she's an idiot who should not own a weapon. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if her permit is taken away. She was not in danger, and the shoplifter was running away from her. She could have injured a bystander. If he had attacked her or if she felt legitimately threatened, it's a different story. She's lucky she didn't hit him. As it stands, she could be charged with a crime for what she did.
Of course that is the right and only answer Sid.... for reasonable thinking people. On the other.... you would think that would be the case 110% of the time. But preserving the right to own 20 automatic weapons seems to supercede concern for the tragedy that is really happening out there. And no one is proposing taking away that privilege from sane.... background cleared people.
Sid, you are so spot on with this one. CHL (Concealed Handgun License) as it is called in Texas, would be pulled onsite if this person actually possessed one... and IF this rumor is true. She was not in fear for her life and was running away. She has no right to even display her firearm much less pull the trigger. If this occurred, she should be charged with attempted homicide. I would like to see a link to this event.
Looks like it is true. Not an employee like I first thought (not stated by MCG) but a customer in the parking lot. It does not state that the suspect was running away from the shooter. The only possible (not probable) justification would be if the vehicle being fired at was trying to hit the shooter. Not very likely!!! http://www.fox2detroit.com/news/local-news/30725284-story
Another concern... A "CPL" in Detroit is about as scarce as a whore in the front row of the Catholic Church. Detroit is the murder capitol of the US when it comes to gun related killings but it is one of the most restrictive cities along with Chicago on obtaining gun permits.
Watch this fact laden video... https://www.facebook.com/retainyourfreedom/videos/911303092238059/?pnref=story
I can understand Dave being afraid of guns. He lived in gun control capitol Detroit, also known as murder capitol of the US. He should know that gun control by the government does NOT work. Maybe some day, he will lose his fear.... Nahhhhhhhh!
Hunted in my younger years Tom.... killed many things and have no fear of guns. I do however have a sensitive spot inside when I see kids being murdered... it makes me sick. I have kids and can't imagine the loss. It makes you think a little bit harder about it when you see these things happening and so many people act callous about it....or at least seem to give it no priority when it comes to improving the situation and reducing these occurrences. I get the gun debate.... but it's way way more than just that.
Dave, the simple fact is this: If tighter gun control would save lives, I would be all for it. The fact is that it will not. Look at the tightest gun control in the US (Detroit... Chicago). Those places have the highest rate of homicides of all cities. Look at Plano Texas... the lowest gun related homicide rate in the US. Central Texas has probably more guns than the rest of the nation including the military combined! How do you explain the lower homicide rate of Texas compared to Detroit and Chicago with the big difference in gun control? How about working on mental health? How about calling for health care for the sick individuals that kill people? How about getting on our side of the immigration issue to keep illegals out? People need to put the blame where it lies... Sick or deranged individuals that can get illegal guns on the street for a couple of pieces of crack is the problem. Not the legal sale of firearms through the legal process to individuals that will keep their guns safe.
This is where I am. In my younger years I was more prone to emotional reaction and was in favor of controlloing the proliferation of firearms through legislation. As I grew older and saw how the criminal element and the mentally disturbed have become more brazen, I've come to realize that no amount of "anti gun" legislation is going to stop criminals and the mentally unbalanced from acting on their unchecked impulses. Meanwhile, law abiding citizens are villified by those reacting emotionally simply for doing something responsibly that is allowed by our constitution. The sad thing is, the reactionaries are basically intelligent people, but they lose all sense of reality when their emotions take over. For me, it's that simple and straightforward.
Having lived and worked in and around Detroit for 31 years.... having traveled up and down 8 mile well before Eminem was born I can say with a great amount of certainty that the good people of Plano, Tx. would be killed and eaten in Detroit. You mention mental health and that is exactly where the focus should be and especially as it relates to gun control. No question that the street thugs of Detroit and Chicago will find their ways to acquire guns illegally. But the mentally ill are not so street savy.... so street smart... and maybe....just maybe some with murderous intent could be held in check with better gun laws to keep weapons out of their hands. Hey.... don't mind me here I'm just making a rational point in a sea of irrationality.
