Cal offense stunk worse than the Texas offense. I don't know how anybody considers Tedford a good coach anymore. David Ash the Texas QB has a long way to go, but just made enough plays in the 2nd halft to get the win. The 1st half was just ugly. Manny Diaz might be the best young DCoord in the country looking at what he did with the Texas defense in his 1st year. The play of the night was Kenny Vacarro leaping the Cal RB who was trying to cut him and smothering the Cal QB for a sack, that CAL QB couldn't believe what he was seeing. Bottom line is we are ok on defense and should be even better next year, but our offense is still a huge question mark.
I think last night was the first time I ever picked TX.....it still stings, but I'll take the points.

Both teams stunk up the joint. Whatever happens to all those Top 5 recruiting classes that Texas gets? It looked like their players on defense were great, but their players on offense were lousy. IMHO- USC's bowl ban hurt the conference more than it did the Trojans. One by-product of the ban was a team like Cal having to "play up" to a tougher bowl opponent, and teams as bad as ASU and UCLA playing bowl games after firing their coaches. Certainly the Bruins should never have been in any bowl at all...
A lot of people are asking that question...ie about recruit rankings. I think our talent shows up on defense, esp given it's the first year of Manny Diaz and the philosophy has changed radically from Muschamp. But on offense we are in the same kind of QB hell as Notre Dame. A RS Soph who clearly would be a 3rd stringer anyother place but has been a co-starter and a true freshman who needed to redshirt this year. Neither of them were accurate throwing the ball and as the year ran on teams just loaded up and dared us to throw and we couldn't. Our RB's esp with the addition of Johnathon Gray will be the best in the country, our OL was young and should be better...but we still won't have a QB unless AZ high schooler Connor Brewer can come in and start and be a phenom..what are the chances of that? Byron Harsin has a lot of work to do with the QB's before we'll be great on offense.
