    I read yesterday that Gerald Williams was declared eligible. It was the dreaded SEC math requirement that was the hold up.

    Congratulations to him, it was a long route to get there but he stuck with it and is not eligible.

    How about Dee Morley? Did he stay in school and will be playing? I hope so.

    Good luck Monday.

    The fact that Williams is eligible is huge for Tennessee. I hate to say it but the closer we get to this season, the more I think Tennessee is being severely underrated. Not only do they get Williams and Morley (two huge difference makers on D) but they also get FSU transfer Brandon Warren at TE. Things are looking up in Knoxville. Look out SEC.

    I read the on a Vol Forum that Lou Holtz laughed when Lee Corse predicted Tenn. to "dethrone" Georgia (not sure what that means, maybe he meant that Tenn. would dethrone GA from the #2 spot in the East) that Lou Holtz laughed out loud. I think the Orange might have a little somethin' for ya Lou. Not that anyone on ESPN is that good, but Lou Holtz embarrasses himself everytime he gets on TV. The bad part is ESPN guys make fun of him and I don't think he even realizes it and then they put him in those goofy halftime "skits."

    Aquila, with those comments you now are going to learn how it feels to have a pit bull lock his teeth on your ass.

    First of all, Lou Holtz is a very smart and very funny man. ESPN hired him because they know how popular he is and how he attracts viewers with his wit and knowledge of the game.

    Second he is a close friend of Phil Fulmer.

    Third, I have the utmost respect and admiration for him. You.....not so much.

    If you want to make any more derogatory comments about him I will continue to symbolically sink my teeth into your young, ignorant ass.

    Sid,

    I don't remember you attacking anyone like you just did Aquila and I see no reason for you to have done so now. Rethink your position.

    oh no I could see that

    <r>Sid knows all about Lou. <br/>
    <br/>
    Aquila is just buying into the skit comedy that they run on ESPN. Sid isn't having any of that. Aquila just ran down Lou unfairly. While we are re-capping the bios of posters gone by, perhaps some folks should have been paying attention to the ND posters who are still here.<br/>
    <br/>
    Make no mistake, Lou has forgotten more football than any 5 people on their 'expert staff' put together will ever know.<br/>
    <br/>
    These guys are playing characters of themselves... People don't often realize that. Rece was over here in the Shoals (he's from Muscle Shoals) this summer and he spent a bulk of his time trying to calm down local Vol, Tide and Tiger fans who are convinced that Lou is retarded and that Lee Corso hates them. It is the sports ENTERTAINMENT programming network...People lose sight of that.<br/>
    <br/>
    Funniest line of the day was Lou to May 'Let's hope that Buffalo doesn't look past Pitt' <B><s></s>POW,ZIIIING<e></e></B></r>

    For the record

    <t>if you want to get Sid's Irish up do one of 3 things.<br/>
    <br/>
    1. Run down his family.<br/>
    2. Run down Ron Powlus.<br/>
    3. Run down Lou Holtz.<br/>
    <br/>
    Hell, Sid and Mike still (for fun) fire shots across the bow of one another regarding Powlus.</t>

    Corey,

    I understand your points. The difference is that Aquila posted an opinion about a public figure. Sid attacked a member of this board with his "ignorant ass" comment. That was over the line. If Sid wants to post a counter opinion of how Lou taught Einstein everything he knows... great. Just don't fire a direct attack at another member.

    Geez, first week of the season and we have to find a way to keep the moderators up late. :(

    Aquila, in my opinion you couldn't be more wrong about Lou Holtz and I for one enjoy him.

    Sid, that's a heck of a way to disagree with someone and really not like you. I don't get it.

    protip: Sid's kid played for Lou.

    Hell, just about all of us Irish posters have p*ssed off Sid at one time or another by knocking Lou or Powlus :) It will blow over. Sid will probably post a 'I went too far' kinda thing in a few days....maybe not.

    It is worthy to note that he, Aquila, attacked a 'public figure' on the grounds that his TV persona is really him. That's silly. All that crap is make believe.

    You guys, mods, don't have to stay up late. There's nothing to see here except late night Pac10 football and I'm the only one watching that :)

    protip2: I've been saying for months now that Tennessee has the SEC right where they want them.... everyone is talking about every other school under the sun except for the Vols... They've been too silent... strangely silent.

    Gotta see how that newbie QB does for Tenn.

    Ainge was a difference maker in the tight games last year of which there were many. Can't see why Tenn would actually be better this year than last.

    So far the SEC is out of the gate real...real strong.

    WRT to Lou....I like him. Spurrier always liked him and he always gives the Gators a more than fair shake plus he has a good sense of humor.

    The SEC looks good and the ACC looks awful.

    Florida beat the worst and most heartless Hawaii team I've seen in some time. Even the Raycom announcers for the game remarked that it didn't seem like a 28-0 (or whatever it was at half-time) ballgame. The Gators have some physical specimens but Hawaii just laid down.

    Miss State losing to La Tech and Arkansas pulling out a 2 TD last qtr win over Western Illinois are the games that some people keep forgetting to mention.

    I think if Tennessee doesn't kill UCLA Monday, they will leave with more questions than they came to LA with... The Bruins are in a bad spot right now. I suspect they will get much better over the course of the year, but right now.... not so much.

    It won't even be a few days. I want to apologize for the tone of that post. Yes, I overreacted. It's not an excuse - I don't make excuses - but the 24 hours leading up to that post made me a sitting duck for a kneejerk reaction of some sort. It just so happened that Aquila's comments about Lou were the trigger. If I would have waited until the next morning, I never would have said anything.

    Having slept a night I realize that if someone - anyone - dissed my team, I'd be upset. I agree that he is a public figure and open to criticism as much as he is open to praise.

    Thus I want to publicly apologize to Aquila and the rest of the members. I fully support this board and the way it operates.

    I think that's enough for me to say on this subject. Let's move on.

    P.S Thanks, Corey. You know me well.

    Tennessee's not the only one being overlooked

    Alabama has not been mentioned at all except for its recruiting. Last night that recruiting paid off. Now we may not do anything else for the rest of the year but last night the freshmen contributed big time and we beat a top ten team convincingly. I really liked the offensive playcalling and the defensive line performance.</r>

    Kp,

    That was one heck of a great start for an inexperienced team! Nice win.

    Don,
    Thanks. It was nice to not have to sweat out the last couple of minutes. I'm not sure what to make of this one. Are we that good or is Clemson that bad? I'll take it though. We are very young so consistancy may be a big problem as the season progresses.

    You are a classy guy Sid.

    I hope whatever happened in the 24 hours before wasn't all that serious and things are well with you.

    And for the record you didn't really keep me up.

    Nice win by Bama last night, I was cheering for them all the way.

    I happen to agree about Tennessee. First I never take them lightly, and secondly getting Dee Morley back is big and I think Gerald Williams will be a factor for them also. Both those guys are on defense.

    Corey, I like your new Avatar.

    By the way Corey, did you ever find out anything about the book?

    Later.
