Hey Terry I had a very nice gentleman from H.E.B. Grocery chain visit me today from San Antonio looking at our peaches today. We are shipping 200,000 lbs into Texas starting in 10 days (about 25% of my crop). I do have to say my admiration for people from Texas is pretty high, they remind me of Florida folks......Well at least those who live and die between I-75 & I-95. Or as some folks describe us with the terminology "Florida Crackers".... Hope you Tom and Scott get the chance to judge them eventually. [/quote]
These are sitting in Houston at H.E. Butts grocery, and in San Antonio if your in that neighborhood. All others are in Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama and soon to be in Indiana.
Oh yeah by the way we started March 12 and I have worked the past 24 days straight and since I am on salary this kinda sucks to be quite honest, especially when I write checks out to my hourly employees for more money than I am bringing home and I worked 30 more hours per week than they did.....I can't wait to be done with a peach this year.
I'll find out Sid, our peaches going into Indiana will be sold through Walmart but I'm not positive the distribution center location. What I am positive is they will come directly from my farm and this old plow boy pushing them onto the loading dock.
If they're sold through Walmart, it's possible, perhaps likely, that they'll be sold around Indy. If you'll give me a heads up through Skybox when they hit Indiana, I'll start looking for them.
Sid it's looking like Indiana is not going to be receiving our product this season. Thibodaux LA seems to be the hot spot Walmart wants to send our peaches to outside the State of Florida. I only have about two more weeks of fruit remaining to harvest so they will never make it to your area. You are going to have to stop by my house in Florida and we'll share peach cobbler and vanilla ice cream and talk about if Notre Dame is in the ACC or just teasing... Take care
Ralph, I'm a sucker for peach cobbler a la mode. I'll be down tomorrow. Seriously, If we travel to Florida and get anywhere near your area, I'll pay you a visit.
I haven't been back here much, so I missed this!! This was a good year for peaches in Texas as well, Central Texas peaches were plentiful and sweet.
