    Leaving for home now, Joel.

Terry, you can see the clip on the Red Sox' or Yankees' home page. It's not that big of a deal (we're talking Slappy, here), but I expect there may be a response.

A-Rod broke up a double play, that's all. Given that he's a sure fire HOF'er and Pedroia has been in the bigs about a week, I'm sure his team mates told him to stifle it.

    Oh, Schilling's response was:

    IP H R ER BB K HR
    C. Schilling (L, 4-2) 6 12 6 5 0 3 2

    8)

Actually, Joe West met with Tito and Torre before the game and told them that there would be no retaliation.

I saw the replay. He threw the elbow to make up for a bad slide. He slid too close to the bag. It looks worse than people are making it out to be. It definitely was a stupid move but not Ty Cobb-like and not worthy of a future HOFer.

I agree, Sid. I can't imagine Jeter doing something like that, but then I can't imagine him slapping a ball out of a pitcher's glove in a play at first base either.

That was a dumb comment. My brain wasn't in gear when I wrote it. At least Rick understood my meaning. What I should have said is that it's not as bad as people are making it out to be. Of course, I'm assuming that people read what I write, which is not necessarily true.

Correct, Stu. I realized that after I re-read it. I'll just chalk it up to an old man's brain fart.

I understand a descendant of Roy Riegels will be throwing out the first pitch in the Bronx today...

Now the Jays are mad at A-Rod for his antics on the base paths?

Johnny Bench was on TV this morning defending A-Rod. He makes the point that baseball is a game of cheating and gamesmanship, always was and always will be.

The Toronto third baseman was humiliated.... as he should have been.
