I don't know alot about him other than the fact that our defense has been highly ranked during his tenure. Our DL has been very good. Our LB's have really been the backbone but our line has been very good. It should be noted that he apparently was responsible for recruiting the last 2 Mississippi Mr Footballs for Alabama. I think you got a good one.

I don't know much about the 'Bama defense either except based on how he's played this year for the Texans, De Meco Ryans should've been the #1 draft choice not Mario Williams!

    KP,

Your signature should read "...but the Tide Defense rolls on forever"

I have never known Bama to have anything other than a great defense.

At the 1999 Fiesta Bowl, Tennessee's '98 championship game, I met someone for the first time. Right before the interception we returned for a TD, I saw coach Gene Stallings walking up the steps to a seat two rows behind mine and four seats over. I walked back to ask him to autograph my ticket. At that very moment, the interception happened. I said "pretty good defense out there isn't it?" His reply was "Yes sir... Looks as good as mine back in 92."

I always had respect for that man (even though he was the "enemy") because of the class he displayed on and off the field. I have always respected the Bama defense. Even in the down years, their defense kept them in most every game.

Texas roots? Looks like a great hire AJ.

You get a good DL coach with great ties in Texas!

    Good Luck!

    Tom,
Yeah, we always seem to have the offensive philosophy of "don't make mistakes and our defense will win it for us." It was like that for our last NC and it was like that for our last few seasons. That's one reason I think Shula should have been kept on for at least 1 more year.
