Is he a Hall of Famer?

It seems to me the Vets committee is the feel good committee, the backdoor for guys who really aren't HOF players but who were popular players and had good careers. I read an article about Gil Hodges recently, his widow is 82 and says she no longer worries about him being in the HOF. Now I was a Dodger fan back then and I love Gil Hodges, but truthfully when you look at his career stats he's not a HOF player. He was a very good player on a very good team (the 50's Dodgers) but if he had played for the Wash Senators he wouldn't even be on the list.

Gil Hodges - an outstanding player from southern Indiana. Great Dodger on some great Dodger teams, but IMO not a HOFer.

I read up on Joe Gordon. Given the era in which he played, the standard he set for power as a 2B (averaged over 20 HR in a WWII-interrupted 11 year career), and his presence on, hence contributions to, winning teams, I don't have a problem with his induction by the vets committee. Just my opinion.
