I really appreciate you taking time out of your night to talk with Carson about that. To be honest, of all the Marines I know, you were the one I trusted to give him the straight dope about the service, commitment and experiences that he would be facing. I appreciate it and you. I'll owe you a few dozen cold ones and now my weekends will be free in the fall, we'll have to find a time to get together. Corey ps I don't have your email in case you didn't notice.
Absolutely my priveledge. Young man has a positive and realistic battleplan for life. PLC....Platoon leaders course...thats what i couldnt remember from last night. Any chance his college of choice has ROTC? AGGIE...move away from the cooler...
AJ, It depends on if he goes to Huntingdon or not. He's already been accepted to several schools, but he really wants to wrestle in college. Thanks to Title IX, wrestling opportunities are really slim nationwide, but especially in the South. He'd leave the South to go to a school elsewhere but the only local interest he's received is from one of the few wrestling programs in the South. (Huntingdon). It's private and pricey. They have an ROTC but it looks like it's for the Army or Air Force. http://www.huntingdon.edu/academics/academic-programs/rotc/ If things fall through with Huntingdon, then I'm about to have a lot more say in where he wants to go to school and that school would most likely have an ROTC program as well. Scott, I'll probably have to share mine, I don't think the Marine is going to share his It'll actually work out great for you since I rarely (if ever) drink anymore.
Honestly... Neither do I. But somebody needs to keep AJ on his toes. ;-) Maybe we could get Rick to pile on...
 Here is PLC. It's a way to become a Marine officer by attending two 6-week boot camps in the summers, then getting your commission when you graduate. Everything is paid for and a lot of your tuition is paid for too. This is how my friend became a Marine Corp fighter pilot and paid for his education after he quit football... https://www.thebalance.com/united-states-marine-corps-platoon-leaders-course-3332801 This also includes special programs for flight training and law school.
I asked Carson point blank today to not ******** with me. Is he still thinking about it, or has he made up his mind. He told me he has made up his mind and that he will be doing the USMC Reserves for sure. I assume he'd pursue the PLC as well. I was confused though because he was talking about delaying enrollment until Spring for college because he had 'months and months' of stuff to take care of according to his recruiter. Thoughts AJ? I thought he could start knocking stuff out as soon as now. He was planning on heading to boot right after graduation, so he could be back in time for school in the Fall.
Sounds like he's got an excellent plan brewing. Tell him we'll all be pulling for him whichever way he goes.
2 sides to reserve programs. We discussed the other night. (1) 180 day reservist (if still available this FY) allows him to be in school by this August. Honestly, there might not be any left for this FY, but you can check. (2) regular reserves = 3 months BC....10 days boot leave...1 month SOI/MCT....3 to 4 months MOS trng....all in a row. He would definitely miss at least 1st semester...possibly 2. The 180 day program allows him to complete the trng after BC the following year.
