Derek Henry wins the Heisman. The kid is a workhorse. Running and blocking he does whatever is asked of him. I did not realize Macaffrey's pedigree, though.
I've watched him a couple of times and the recurring thought I have is that he's a load. A big man with speed and punishung power. A very deserving winner.
I was really impressed with all three finalists. All seemed to be quality guys with lots of talent. All were a little different in their contributions to their teams. Henry was a good choice.
It will be interesting to see where he goes in the draft and how his career unfolds. He is not the prototypical NFL RB. That said I'd love to see him in a Texan uniform now that Arian Foster is done.
Congrats to Henry. And now some fun. The finalist with the highest QB rating came in second this year. And this: Running, blocking, catching, throwing passes (for TDs), returning punts, returning kickoffs, wildcat...he does whatever is asked of him, and for more success than anyone has before him. He came in second this year.
One thing for sure, not many people knew who Christian McCaffery was before the season began. He is well known and high profile. He will enter the 2016 season as one of the top Heisman Candidates along with Leonard Fournette, Baker Mayfield and DeShaun Watson....and no doubt a few other guys we don't know about right now.
This is in response to some of the discussion from the Navy topic. Sid, actually, I was trying to stay on (somewhat related) topic for the Navy topic. I guess my attempt at humor by pointing out that Ivan missed a glaring streak over a rival that makes my heart giddy wasn't as on target as I hoped. I don't mind talking about the Heisman vote, which is why I made a smart-ass comment on this topic after offering my congrats to Henry. Just because I think CMac would have been a deserving winner doesn't mean I'm denigrating Henry's accomplishments at all; he had a great year and is a deserving winner. I'm not even sure I would have voted for Christian if I had a vote, but I do think the kid had an amazing year. I perhaps saw what McCaffrey did more than the common fan and was thoroughly impressed, but I don't recall saying anything that would say just because he was a great player that Henry didn't have a great year as well. Truth be told, if I were to remove all bias from the voting, I would probably expect Falk to have won it.
You're a class act, Kes, by far the best analytical mind on this board. The first statement you made was to congratulate Henry, so I - and I'm sure everyone here - never thought you were disrepecting his win. Part of the fun here is sticking up for conferences and regions. You, JO'Co, Corey, Diane, and Rick are a formidable cadre representing the Pac 12. There are the SEC guys and gals (kp, Scott, Bill, Tom, Cindy, Wendy, Dave), the Big 10 guys (myself, Bobda, AJ, Gipper (Mike), Don, Stu), the lone Big 12 guy (Terry ), and of course the independents, specifically the ND guys, most of whom are crossovers from the above list (apologies if I left someone out). Personally, I like your moxie in sticking up for your guy. I did the same when Manti Te'o was up for the award. Look at the spirited conversation that happened because of it. As they say, it's all good. As far as my P.S. in the other topic, I was just yanking your chain, which no one ever does in Skybox.
lol Sid, you give me too much credit. Re: your final statement, unfortunately as a result of losing some of our "stronger" personalities, it's quieted down quite a bit. Yanking chains and spirited discussion was always one of the more entertaining aspects of this place. Cheers, my man.
kp, and I do appreciate the poke back. With the loss of so many strong personalities from this board, it gets way too vanilla at times. Sometimes I miss the days of battleship broadsides where someone could light the match and enjoy the fireworks from the sidelines.
Jif used to light a match about what he called ND's weak schedule, but his matchbook fell in the toilet.
