Do you Irish fans think there's any truth to this? http://www.profootballtalk.com/category/rumor-mill/ Scroll to the second story on the page.
No, Nada, Zip... If Charlie falters next fall, and Gruden isn't coaching someplace then the rumour mills will be hotter than a fire cracker over ND and Gruden. Question: Do you actually think Gruden is well suited for college coaching? I know he has the enthusiasm. But that Buc's offense is very complicated and he's not been very friendly to young QB's.
There is a small but intensely vocal group of ND fans who continuously masturbate to the sound of his name and who, I suspect, are fueling the rumors. I would be shocked and disappointed if anything like that happened at this time.
Gruden <r>This is pure speculation and so far from reality it's not worth talking about. I don't see Gruden EVER being a successful DIV 1 coach anywhere, especially not at ND. <E>8)</E></r>
Swapping a Charlie for a Chuckie .... would only be a temporary "solution" until Urbie resigns from UF to take the ND job!!
Every other year, coincidently just before NOI day crap like this comes out. I notice our local sports TV guy just couldn't resist reporting it at 6 and 11. He'll probably report it again tonight just in case any local recruits weren't watching last night. What crapola!
f I'm sure that anybody who is recruiting against us for a player is making comments that imply Charlie will be fired after 2009, or stuff like this Gruden rumour. It's just the way things are. Plus just like that journalist in Fla who wrote some articles about Urban Meyer leaving for ND, there are things written today that are just crap. If Lane Kiffin has success at Tenn get ready for Kiffin is leaving for the NFL rumours being told to recruits.
The extension to Weis was not driven by race, as the media likes to report, but rather to stem the tide of negative recruiting. ND started winning and the 'Weis to the NFL rumors' were working their way around the circuit. While that may, or may not, seem laughable now.. They were there. Some black helicopter folks like to hint that it was Weis' people who were doing that.. but those of us following ND long enough know, or at least should know, that this stuff always comes up with good/great coaches. Holtz is an exception but much of that had to do with his previous NFL experience. It was rather well documented that he was no fan of the NFL mindset.
Even Holtz had to deal with it, in the early 90's, Holtz who was friends with the Vikings owner was several times supposedly leaving ND for the Vikings.
Well I will be able to wear my Gruden-ND shirt that I bought many years ago....ha ha Better hit the treadmill even harder to fit into it
No way do I want Gruden. Very much disliked by his players, past and present. This continues to underscore the tenuous nature of Weis at Notre Dame. I'm still not 100% convinced he will be the coach this year but if he doesn't win big with the schedule he has for 2009 I'm 100% sure he won't be the coach next year.
Jim Rome weighs in on Gruden and ND rumours.....Dude. He cracks on Charlie a couple of times as well. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/AL8utyVVlW8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/AL8utyVVlW8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Wait .... I wanted to post that!!! Gipper, how does ND being out recruited for Trattou and Hunter .... who, BTW, both have conference champ and MNC rings .... equate to sabotage? Hmmmmm, I wonder if Young and Wenger ever think about .... missing out on two MNC games, wins?
