"The Gators have only 10 seniors and 11 juniors. They've played 27 freshmen in their first three games. More than 70 percent of Florida's roster is composed of freshmen and sophomores." The young Gators are starting to grow whiskers according to Meyer. This team has potential to be a great one but MCG suspects a pitfall or two down the road......the SEC road that is. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?columnist=schlabach_mark&id=3022013
Seven of the next eight Saturdays will be very interesting for this defense: 09/22/07 Mississippi - #77 09/29/07 + Auburn - #76 10/06/07 * LSU - #18 10/14/07 off 10/20/07 * Kentucky - #15 10/27/07 $ Georgia - #76 11/03/07 + Vanderbilt - #78 11/10/07 South Carolina - #67 11/17/07 + Fla. Atlantic - #60 - Go Ground Owls!! Big win over Minnesota!!!!! 11/24/07 + Florida St. - #89!!!! Jimbo not happy and says he's going to make changes. LMAO @ the noles.
Other than LSU I don't see anybody on that schedule who will be favored vs UF. Of course on any given saturday, yada, yada.... Gators are just plain good. Mark Richt is not up to handling Meyer, neither is Fulmer, and while I think SOS is up to it he'll never have the talent that Meyer has. Now in the west with LSU who does have the talent but probably not the coach...that's who will challenge the Gators this year. Probably see 2 games of UF/LSU this year.
hmmm <t>I thought I read a depth chart report that showed Florida starting 4 seniors and a Junior along the Oline. Was that depth chart off?

I saw another depth chart (rivals) that lists your depth at OL as being:

T -Jr w/2years Vars
T -Sr w/2 years Vars
C -Sr w/3 years Vars
G-Jr w/2 years Vars
G- Fr w/no Vars
TE-Jr w/2 years Vars

This guy is bending some numbers. Blowouts has afforded you the chance to play numbers which has allowed you to dip into the bench...But you guys aren't young where it counts...

Your DL depth chart on rivals reads:

DT-Jr
DT-Sr
DE-So
DE-Jr

You're young at CB and at LB but having 2 senior safeties helps steady that young leadership.

Like I said, you guys are young, but you're quite experienced where you need it most. You guys look tough</t>
O-line starters for UT - LT - RJr - 1st year starter LG - RJr - 2nd year starter OC - Sr - 2 year starter, 1st season at OC RG - True Freshman - injured and replaced by a RFr RT - RSr - 1st year starter Had Phil Trautwein not been injured, UF would have been starting 2 Sr. RSr, and 2 RJr ..... what one likes to see on the o-line. On the d-line starters for UT - DE - RJr - 2nd year starter DE - So - 1st year starter DT - RSr - 1st year starter DT - RJr - 1st year starter However, there is a significant rotation on the d-line and the guys getting a lot of playing time incluse a SR, 2 RFr, and 4 Fr. What's interesting with the d-line rotation is Mattison has all of the young DEs running at DT sometime during the game.
One of those senior safties got replaced mid-game by a true freshman. The Fr will start this Saturday.
Those are surprisingly bad offensive rankings of UF opponents Gaterz. I'll bet the Tenn offense is ranked at least as high as LSU if not higher so maybe the top offensive team we play has already been played. That's a good thought if true. However....that LSU defense puts their offense in good position. I do think that Urban would be Les Miles' personal nightmare in Atlanta in December..
Corey, our starting lineup going into next week would be OL Watkins Redshirt Junior Tartt Redshirt Junior Miller True Senior Pouncey True Freshman Meddler Redshirt Senior QB Tebow True Sophmore RB Moore True Junior TE Ingram Redshirt Junior WR Cooper True Sophmore Harvin True Sophmore Murphy True Junior DE's Harvey Redshirt Junior Cunningham True Sophmore DT McMillian Redshirt Senior EsTopian Redshirt Junior LB Jones Redshirt Freshman Spikes True Sophmore Doe True Sophmore CB Haden True Freshman (came in as a WR and hadn't played Def) Anderson True Sophmore Safety Joiner True Senior Wright True Freshman Kicker/Punter Iijas Redshirt Senior Henry True Freshman Return Specialist James True Sophmore Of course some of this is fluid, actually One listed starting DT last week, Antwine who is a true sophmore. But it's ok for conversation. So by my count 11 of our 22 offensive or defensive starters are true sophmores or freshmen which means they are from our last two recruiting classes. fortunately the offensive line is pretty experienced which makes a major difference. It is true that the Gators are very young, it also true that the recruiting classes the last two years are perhaps the two best we have ever had. Hope this helps.
Thanks Bill <t>It does help.

You guys are young. My only point prior was that you guys seem to be 'seasoned' and older right where you need it. You can win a NC with an average QB or even TB. You don't win an NC with a young OL. I think its possible to give an NC a run with a young line if you have experienced talent at the skills spots...but you can't be young everywhere and expect to make a run at much of anything.</t>
I have to agree Corey and we do have an experienced OL. Goinging into the season I was really concerned about our defense, but they performed really well Sat in just about all areas except sacks. Our DT's didn't get much push of the middle, but they were immovable as far as giving up running yards. I'm very excited about this team and we will have most guys back next season.
