There was a recent poll on Volsquest.com that narrowed it down to two Vols who would be voted on to be the greatest Vol of all time.

    Reggie White or Peyton Manning.

I'm going to say Peyton has my vote, I never got to see reggie play college, I'm a young buck ya know. What are your guy's take on it.

DUI=DQ, and I'm not talking Dairy Queen.

Kind of ironic logic given my vote for Majors, but what the hell.

That's always a tough one but Majors, White and Manning would have to be in any conversation about it. My guess is that younger guys like you would go with Peyton, it's only natural to relate better to the players you grew up with.

I vote for Pete Panuska. Sorry guys have to chose the local boy from Brick NJ. Still holds kick off return record for Sun Bowl (1984). Great player from what I heard but majorly pissed off the Major when he got hurt at pick up football game here in Jersey during Thanksgiving break.

Any Tenn guys know him? I talked to several last year at ND-Tenn game but none knew of him.

    Pete Panuska?

Did he play for Brick Township H.S.? If he's the guy I'm thinking of, he ran for like 3 TDs in the first quarter of an absolute rout of Central Regional in Bayville back in '81. Beat 'em something like 42-0.

Wolf's a legend alright, Fitz. He's the only FB coach Brick's ever had. I see Pete's back at Brick as the indoor track and field coach.

Me from Joisey? Nah. Just good with a search engine.

I am from Mass., though. You see or listen to the Sox win today?

I try not to judge CFB players by their NFL success when assessing their college achievements.

Peyton was a great college Qb but he suffered from the same malaise that seems to deck him in the pros and that is he muffs the very biggest game.

He was 0-4 vs. Florida and was not the difference maker for UT he could have been in those games.

Otherwise from strictly a college perspective there must be other candidates than White but I'll bet he was damned good in college.

One thing I find interesting, is that the list is seemingly so short. Surely over on the Vol Nation it is much longer than Majors, White and Manning.

I have to go with Manning.

And I have to disagree with MCG, what's new? Manning does not and has not muffed the biggest games. Yes he was 0-4 against Florida, but that was the greatest 4 years ever for the Gators and we had a guy there named Wuerffel.

And in the pros the Colts would not be where they are without him. I don't see how you can blame Manning for losing to New England for several years and then losing to Pittsburg last year. Those teams were just better, and Manning put them in position against the Steelers to tie the game but the field goal kicker missed.

Manning an White were the two finalists. That poll had been whittled down like a March Madness 64 slot bracket.

I actually voted for Peyton but that was a hard choice. If I had completed my 4 years all in a row... White would have entered school in my senior year. I watched him play just like I watched Peyton. Reggie was a gentle giant off the field but was a terror come Saturday. He had a work ethic second to none in his day.

Yes, that was a hard decision but Peyton got my vote.

Oh I believe I watched them MCG. But it appears to me that you have lost track of the fact that New England was the best team in the NFL for several years and won several Super Bowls. I guess those other teams that lost to New England must have QB's that can't win the big game either.
