I think I would have to go with Payton Manning, but I am amazed that Joe Namath, and Kenny Stabler were not even mentioned. Both were very great field leaders, great passers and great athletes.

I'm a big fan of Tim Tebow, but IMO he's not the greatest. However, I'm guessing most folks' thoughts revolve around teams and conferences with which they're familiar. There are so many great ones that you could name 10 different QBs as the greatest, and I probably would be hard pressed to argue with any of them.

Pretty impossible task at which that list fails miserably in so many ways. Of to top 10 plus honorable mentions only 2 QB's pre 1980 are included, Sammy Baugh and Roger Staubach. Plus the highlight video they have for Staubach is a joke, it's the 1964 Notre Dame/Navy game where we beat Navy 40-0, they highlights showed exclusively ND scoring plays and 1 play by Staubach..an interception.

I guess nobody played QB worth a flip for the most part before 1980. I guess Johnny Lujack, Bobby Lane, Len Dawson, Bob Griese, Dan Marino, Jim Plunkett, Joe Namath, weren't as good as say Colt McCoy who was honorable mention. Now Colt had a great career and was extremely accurate as a passer, but he played in a system that promoted that. Prior to the Spread even great QB's like Joe Montana had completion % around 50 %. That would get you benched in today's college football.
I kind of understand the lack of QB's from 20's, 30's as nobody threw the ball very much. But starting in the 40's Leahy while still running the ball a lot had a couple of QB's win the Heisman because for their time they were very good at running and passing.

But it's like saying some team like the Astros are greater than the '27 Yankee's because they only hit 150 or so HR's and the Astros have already hit 255 hr's. It's the same as all the inflated college stats for QB's, it's a different game.

    But it generates clicks.

The list of the top 150 College Football Teams of all-time is equally flawed. It's like football wasn't played in any era but post 1970 or so.

Didn't see that Bill had already posted this. Moderators remove my post.

A pretty subjective list because all of the Qbs on the list have impressive numbers. They key is when you're thinking of other more deserving names is the "college" designation.... not NFL Qbs.

Manning was a great college Qb but his accomplishments in college fell short of what Tebow was able to accomplish.... in college.

Hey, I just saw Tebow's record for consecutive games with rushing for and passing for a TD got tied last night by the Houston QB. Didn't you say it would be many, many years until that record got touched?

if you look at the stats of Tebow and Manning the y are pretty close. Tebow's are a little better but not much.

No question that Manning was a great college Qb before starring in the pros... but he never beat UF and Tebow won one NC as the starter and was a key part of another and also won the Heisman so he was a more decorated college Qb.

Maybe it's just me, but I think that if Staubach were throwing to future NFLers and Tebow were throwing to future ensigns that Roger would be "more decorated" than Tim.

Like I said a lot would disagree.

Huskerman, yes the real number 15 is Tim Tebow. :)

I sure agree about this been all a matter of opinion and with the fact you could list a great number of QB's who could all be considered number one.

In fact the whole "who is the nuber one player of any sport" is kind fo wrong to me. I would prefer categories that included more than one player. And I think they guys who played years ago get short shifted with these kind of thoughts.

But for generating conversation it's great. :)

I think Tim was maybe the best QB of his era, time he was in college. Great leader.

I think you could argue many of the names on the list as the best. The list itself is the "honor". I do have a problem with who is not on the list.
