I got power at home yesterday!!! It was a great feeling to walk in the front door and feel cool air to not be condemned to darkness after sundown!!! Of course that meant ROAD TRIP, so I left for Austin to party, play golf and watch football on TV!!!

Astros however have not yet recovered from the shock of IKE. :(

    Go Irish.

The only thing that saved me was a cool front followed Ike and overnight temps would get down in the 60's.

If you have time, let's get together while you're in Austin. I'd like to put a face to the name. Oh, and tomorrow you're an honorary Vol. We need all the help we can get. But, I did get my wish today. Al Wilson gave a talk to the team. Let's hope he fired them up.

For many years before I retired the first time I worked for a Power Company. Those folks are working 12 hours or more a day and 6-7 days a week trying to get the electrical system back up and running. I imagine you have thousands of electrical workers from other states there also.

Sid, I think you meant to post the Al Wilson comment in the Florida - Tennessee topic?

Wilson was a Tennessee player who almost single handed kept the Gators from winning in Tennessee they year Tennessee won the National Championship. I believe he was the guy who made an absolutely unbelievable interception a point in the game when the Gators could have taken charge.

Anyway, Terry enjoy your electric power and if you see any of those electric workers make sure and give them a big smile.

    Bill,

We do have 7000 power workers and their trucks from out of state. Pretty impressive. I have a patient who works for Center Point and he said everybody thinks you just tell them to go fix things but after they get here they have to be oriented to the area and also there have to be assessment teams that map out the problems before they can start fixing problems. Also I did not know that there were different types of crews, those that can handle minor debris removal along with the repairs but can't handle major debris removal or pole replacement. Anyway, as you well know its, more complicated than just getting crews out there.

    This...

<t>City looks like a war zone. I live in west Houston and got my power on in time to watch the Cowboys in that great Monday night game. You should see the houses out here that have large oak trees through the roofs and garages. So sad to see. Tree and utility trucks in from 25 states so far to deal with this disaster.<br/>
I feel blessed beyond belief to of escaped like we have in my family. I will never forget that roar through here one week ago.<br/>
    <br/>
Now lookin forward to watch a day full of college football and seeing if the Irish can hande a road trip and a stud RB.</t>

Yeah Terry there are a lot of differences in work that different crews might do. Some of it has to do with equipment and some with expertise.

The top of the list is the people doing the line work, they are the most skilled and highly paid and their trucks are full of expensive and specialized equipment. I'm not sure how much underground you have in your area but many times there are also differences in the underground crews and overhead crews. Some of the underground work can be done by either type.

Then there are the tree crews that are very important in getting overhead lines restored. Then other crews that clean up etc.

And you are certainly correct that there is a lot of behind the scenes work that needs to be done to integrate outside crews into the restoration scheme.

Sounds like it's going as well as could be expected in your area.
