Hey Tom, in the SEC the call would likely have been overturned. What the heck was that ump looking at anyway?
If I was Gardenhire I would worry more about the whats than the what-ifs. As in bases loaded, nobody out, no runs. The Twins are toast.
I don't have a dog in this fight, but I can't believe the left field umpire missed the call on Mauer's hit. t was a good 6-8" inside the line. It could have changed the outcome. Mauer would have been on second when the guy behind him singled and he might've - stress might've - scored. I'm old school and don't believe in replays for everything, but that was inexcusable.
It was a horrible call. But beyond that you cannot assume anything. As I said, when they loaded the bases with no outs and could not scratch out a single run they kind of invalidated that bad call in my mind. And Joe Nathan looked like he was standing in front of a firing squad when he came in. It's moot.
That was a given when the pairing was finalized. I just didn't think it would require some Bronx justice to take care of them You are absolutely correct though. The Twinkies lost that game when they sent back to back hitters to the plate who swung at the 1st pitch. Stupid, stupid baseball.
 You and I both know that it didn't and won't......in any event a bad call. The notion that it cost the Twins the ball game is absurd.....
That's not what I said. Don't twist my words. You Yankee fans are awfully thin-skinned. I said "could have" and explained why I said it. Big difference. I've never been a "the call cost the game" type of fan. My point was simply that to miss such an obvious call in such an important contest is inexcusable. I'd have said the same thing if it had happened to the Yankees. I don't care who wins this division series. I just love watching playoff baseball. I agree with George that the Twins' failure to score with the bases loaded and no outs was objectively more of a factor than the "could have" missed call.
Nobody is twisting your words Sid.....if you'll notice, it was Corey's quote I referenced - re: "Bronx justice" and was just "yanking" his chain. I've got no problem with anything you said.....who's "thin skinned"?
I apologize BT. I didn't see Corey's quote. I thought you were commenting on my post. I guess as it turns out, I'm the one who's thin-skinned.
No sweat Sid.....I assumed you missed that. It's just not your style to come out firing without provocation.
Twins closer Joe Nathan announced this morning that he is leaving the team and has signed an exclusive contract to pitch for the American Wiffleball Association. 8)
