********!!!!! YOU GET EXACTLY WHAT YOU PLANT. And what the Crimicanes are harvesting now are their WEEDS of destruction. It was just a matter of time before "Style over Substance" caught up with them. If it looks, acts and talks like a thug........And Larry Coker can say what he wants, his leadership (complete lack of it) is the main reason for the scenario they're in. He could've fixed it, but apparently he thought it was cute also. The Univ of Miami needs to drop their FB program.
There was a strong message in the light "punishment" meted out by Miami for that disgrace. No, it wasn't a message to the players on the team. They already know that no matter what they do, real punishment has never been a serious threat at the U. No, it was a message to all those future recruits. You know the ones that want to play in the NFL someday but always seem to be getting in trouble for minor assaults and illegal deeds. It says "We're still open for business. Give me you troubled, your dysfunctional, your deranged." IF YOU CAN PLAY, YOU CAN STAY!!!!
There is some truth to that article. However Miami still has a deserved reputtion from the past, and the Presidents comments were poor in my opinion and the penalties to light.
This sums up my feelings exactly. Mandel is using typically flawed media logic.....Everyone else is doing it, so why be so hard on Miami? Well, Stewie, BECAUSE IT'S MIAMI! 'Nuff said.
Those in charge can pontificate all they want about not being Thug U, blah de blah. But the bottom line is that if somebody called you on a Saturday and said "Did you see the big fight" without mentioning which teams were involved, you'd immediately guess it was Miami and who ever they are playing. Terry
I think you could do a real life tv series called miami's most wanted. Life in the underground as a miami hurricane!! Coming to your house winter '06
He did make some good points.. but as I have said..if any of the Florida teams do anything..it gets blown out of porportion by the media/other teams fans etc. When the truth is..that some of the fans rippin on these teams...root for a team that has players with worse criminal records, and players just as thuggish.
How many fights like that have you seen or heard about this year? Not a one on one fight, not two on two. but a bench clearing brawl? Every weekend? Once a month? Nope. And this isn't about "any of the Florida teams", this is about Miami. The blog writer called this fight exhibit A but then lists many of the other incidents in Miami's relatively short history. This fight wasn't exhibit A it was about exhibit M.
Relax...I was just pointing out that if a Florida team does this they get ripped to shreds and if say Texas has Taylor busted for Drugs..assault etc..it barely hits the news. Actually there were a couple bench clearing brawls that same week with Holy Cross or whatever school it was. Of course it dosent happen every week...but it has happened before. Anyways these FIU guys were obviously overlooked by Miami and are miffed about it. From what I heard...they started the fight. I do agree with this writer that they get ripped very harshly compared to other schools. Same deal with FSU and Florida. Look in the mirror...your team isnt full of clean skeletons like that guy pointed out.
You are right. I hate to defend Miami , but let's be fair about this. If an opposing player attacks your holder, do you honestly think that players from Alabama, Notre Dame, Florida, Ohio State, Nebraska or Penn State would just stand there and do nothing?
So you are saying that players from Penn State, would kick and stomp on opponents who are on the ground and tomahawk them with their helmets?
Just to add another thought, I don't think JoePa has the type of players nor does he run the type of program that would fight like the Miami players fight. Sure they'd stand up for their guys, but it would be a lot of pushing and shoving not the feeding frenzy that you saw from Miami. Same for Texas and Notre Dame.
lol Terry, Pushing and shoving is too severe. I was thinking of name calling, like calling them creeps, fairies or ratfinks and perhaps shaking hands at midfield afterwards. What would Notre Dame players do, engage in a spelling bee or a prayer session?
Prayer session. Notre Dame players are taught to turn the other cheek, go the the nearest corner of the end zone, get on one knee, and pray for the souls of the wayward opponents. Didn't you know that?
