HEY JOCO!!! As you know, I have been in a bit of a shell for say....the past 2 years. I was just informed that Dr Gene Scott passed away in Feb of 2005. Why did I not know this? I have countless childhood and early teen memories that involve watching late night TV with my dad. Always on the weekend of course, the two programs were SNL and Dr Gene Scott's fiery TV evangelical shows. Did you know this, or is this just another case of me being the only one with his head in the sand. For those who never listened to him, I found him to be a fascinating orator and debater. I may not agree with him but like all great story tellers, you couldn't help but stay with him just to see where the ride was going to take you. Oh, and dear God..I can't ever look at those cymbal playing monkeys without thinking of him. Remember the show where he had dozens and dozens of them surrounding him?
I found out about his death a few weeks after it happened. Dr. Gene Scott was a Los Angeles TV icon on the order of Dick Lane or Spade Cooley. He seemed to symbolize an entire era of SoCal television and religious cultural mayhem. For those of us who revel in troublemaking, he was one of the greats. His young wife has taken his place and does a Gene Scott imitation on TV every night, but its not the same thing...
