    Sid,

As I just mentioned on the Final Four thread, that name really sounds familiar. Where is Butler located?

    Strange game for Florida.

Chandler Parsons.....the official SEC Player of the Year.......was nowhere to be found except for missing his threes and getting called for some phantom fouls.....of which there were many.

Tied with 30 seconds in regulation and we don't even try to go inside and drive the basket.....and maybe get a foul called by the most whistle happy refs I have seen in this NCAA tournament.

Every single ball Butler threw at the rim that bounced went up and around and then through it seemed whereas every strange bounce for UF fell away.

Just one of those days when you are destined to lose.

Oh well........I think we would have been a 15-20 loser to Kansas as I think Butler will be.

Congratulations. When the Gators took an 11 point lead in the second half I thought we would win. But from that point on Butler just didn't make mistakes and the bounces seem to go their way.

That's not negative, bounces are part of the game and we got our share early. But it was a strange game that I thought we could win.

Good luck in the Final Four.

I saw that UF was up on Butler and decided the Gators would win going away and didn't bother to watch. Congrats to Butler quite an accomplishment for them to make 1 final four much less back to back final fours.

Terry, it seemed that from the time we had the 11 point leave everything went right for Butler. Offensive rebounds, fouls.

I thought we would hold on, but no dice.

Nice win for Butler, tough loss for the Gators.

Must depend on your perspective. I was screaming at the TV set over the many phantom fouls called against Butler.

    Agreed.

I don't know if it is accurate but someone over on Gatorsports said UF was called for 7 fouls in a row after that lead was gained......most of which seemed very ticky tack considering how much other contact was being allowed.

Sid....yes....I saw a couple of questionable calls on Butler as well but the timing for all the fouls called on UF in the last Butler run to catch up was a killer.

These refs stunk....pure and simple......and so did UF when it counted.

Give Butler credit but I don't see them competing with Kansas.

I seem to recall UF had the ball with the shot clock off and a chance to win. Butler chose to put the game in the hands of their defense.. It's not their fault UF decided to chuck a prayer from the timeline.. nor are the officials to blame for that.

I couldn't agree more on that one.

That is the part about UF stunk too.

Maybe it shouldn't have come to that......but give Butler credit for making the most of their opps.

Mack suddenly found his missing mark at the free throw line and hit a couple of threes also.

This from Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun sums up my frustration:

"“I wish we had played more to our character,” Donovan said. “You get in these close games, and it's all so fragile.”

So fragile. Because this Gator team could get no breaks Saturday. The free throw miss that was tipped in with Tyus' help, the banked 3-pointer, the free throw that looked like it missed but went high in the air and swished through the net, the officials taking over the game with phantom calls after Florida built an 11-point lead, the blocked 3-point attempts that floated into the hands of the Bulldogs."

Is Kansas already in the final Four? I thought they still had a game to play.

I'm sure most of the sports world does not see them competing against (fill in the blank). Even I did not think they had a team equal to last year's. Nevertheless, they've beaten, in order, a #1, #5, and #2 seed. Maybe they can't compete against VCU or Kansas. Maybe they can. We'll see.

P.S. Corey is right. That shot from downtown by the Florida guard was ill-advised and unnecessary. I take nothing away from Florida. They are a good team. They have talent and they play hard. Donovan is a great coach. In fact, Brad Stevens made a point that he was outcoached big time in the game. Butler just has that intangible that few teams have. They face bigger, more talented teams, like Pitt, and Wisconsin, and Florida, and they just plain refuse to lose.

Right now VCU is dominating Kansas, lead by 14 at the half and have led by as much as 18.

I wish Butler all the best, I wanted them to beat Duke last year, maybe this year the win it all.

Well......VCU wins fairly easily and proves I don't know squat about Kansas.

I know just enough however that if Ct. loses to the Ky-UNC winner I win a 24 man pool and at worst come in second even if UConn wins that game..

But still......what a weird year in the NCAA Tourney.

I will say that my son and I watched KU-VCU and both of us couldn't believe the number of times that VCU appeared to foul.....and most certainly would have been called for one by a certain ref in New Orleans yesterday......if he wanted to.

The refs really "let them play" tonight in San Antonio.

I am confident many of us thought Kansas was a virtual lock for the final four. Especially after have so many higher seeds fall by the wayside. March maddness can be harsh at times thats for certain. :?:
