Ghana stunned the world's second ranked team by taking the lead in this Group E game with some of the crowd still taking their seats.

They made the breakthrough after just two minutes thanks to another of the tournament's promising youngsters.

Asamoah Gyan, 20, supplied the perfect finish after Stephen Appiah had delivered a good cross into the area from the left.

Chelsea's Petr Cech was stunned - it was the first goal the Czech Republic had conceded in five games.

They hit back after eight minutes with a swift counter attack but Jaroslav Plasil's effort cleared the bar.

Then Pavel Neved tested goalkeeper Richard Kingson after a neat one-two with Tomas Rosicky.

Ghana, though, looked good going forward and Stephen Appiah rattled in a shot from distance which went narrowly wide of the post.

Nedved then scuffed a shot wide after a free-kick had been played to him by Rosicky.

The Czechs were struggling to get their game together and it was Ghana who looked dangerous going forward.

Matthew Amoah sent a shot wide as they continued to cause the Czechs problems every time they launched an attack.

Rosicky, who scored twice in the defeat of the USA in the first game, showed a surprising lack of confidence a minute before half time.

He clipped a close range shot wide after Karel Poborsky had sent in a teasing cross from the right.

Then in stoppage-time in the first half Nedved tried to cut inside but Otto Addo made a timely clearance to round off a superb first half by Ghana.

    Czech Republic 0 Ghana 2 :D

Ghana is the youngest team in this tournament. Very few of its amateur players even have contracts yet. The kid who scored the first goal is only 20 years-old. This was the equivalent of the U.S. Men's Ice Hockey Team's "miracle on ice."

    :D
