To each other. I don't know about anyone else, but I am impressed with this. Bulldogs - Yellow Jackets allow cross transfers
It does seem to be unfair for schools to with hold a kids right to transfer to any school he wishes to me, always has. I know coaches hate the thought of that player coming back to haunt them in future games, but so what. But this agreement just allows kids to transfer and go on scholarship, when a school refuses to release a player to certain schools all that means really is that the player can't go on scholarship for a year, he can go ahead and transfer and pay his own way though. What about not only allowing the kid to transfer where he/she wants to go but also letting them play right away if their academics are in order? I'm pretty sure that only football players and mens basketball players have to sit out a year, doesn't make any sense to me. Also I think kids shouldn't have to redshirt, give them 5 years of eligibility.
Bill, I am impressed also and it would seem like the student athlete is being considered the most, which they should be. The no tampering rule will have to be enforced vigorously for this to work!
Good stuff. This also undermines the 'school owns the players' mindset that winds up serving as a basis for many of these damned lawsuits.
I admit that I don't have a clear understanding of the rules. I think that decisions should be pro-student, and don't think that the school or coach should have full control over the situation. I don't think that there should be an extra waiting period just because the player transfers to a school in the same conference. I basically believe in the player being able to go where he wants. But boy, if there were no rules/commitments then it would just be constant recruiting and tampering. Would it be chaos? Would it be detrimental to the kids themselves?
I guess that's the fear, players would become free agents and there would be chaos. There is a lot of information out there on the whole transfer process, and it's pretty complicated. But for some reason I thought that currently unless you play Football or Mens Basketball you do not have to sit out a year. But I could be wrong of course. I'm pretty sure golfers don't have to sit out a year, I was thinking baseball players don't either and I don't know about women basketball players.
I'm not clear on all the rules either and think there should be some control. But there does seem to be a lot more movement toward player rights these days which I think is a good thing.
it would be chaos. Look no further than any state that has no limit restrictions of transfers on high school students.. now imagine adding a multi-million dollar recruiting budget to that. It would be chaos.
 Can we do that here in California? Can we allow cross transfers from Cal to UCLA? They're in the same university system...
