He doesn't really have to holler fore when he shanks or other such misdirected shot.

personal story...a month ago I was standing behind and to the right of a playing partner who was playing out of the rough amongst some trees. I felt safe...but he shanked it so bad it hit a tree that no way was in his desired ball flight and it bounced off the tree and hit me in the leg. I negotiated 2 additional strokes for that 9 off of him! No lawyers needed. But I guess the moral is you aren't always as safe as you think! :)
Don't worry you don't have to say Fore

I also remember a story involving a local teenager at an Astros game, sitting on the 3rd base side outside the protective screen who was hit in the face by a foul ball. The father tried to sue, but his case was thrown out of court on essentially the same basis, by sitting where he sat he accepted the known risks of a foul ball.

Terry, when I had front row seats at our local minor league park, next to the home team dugout, I and my friend were astounded at how ignorant people can be of the dangers from foul balls. We never said anything to the adults, but we would warn kids to stay alert. Eventually, we changed seats to behind the backstop because my friend's wife was too afraid to sit out in the open.

I was at a minor league game a few years back when a LH batter scorched one over the 3rd base dugout directly at my wife. I had a beer in my right hand so I attempted a one handed grab. I failed. Luckily my bride was holding box of cracker jacks which exploded when the ball hit it. I was in the dog house, my wife was OK and my seats were moved the next week. I did not spill my beer.

Another time I was standing behind the tee box while my buddy's 15 year old son was on the tee. He took a full swing at the ball which left at a 45% angle, hit a ball washer, ricocheted back and clipped the top of my right ear on the way by causing me to scream the "F" word and the kid to get teary-eyed. This all transpired in less than a second!

My 15 minutes of fame was similar to George's near miss.
I took my folks to an Aggie baseball game a few years back, before they were trying to tone down the aluminum bats.
We were sitting a little up from first base.
The batter lined one right at my mom's face.
I reached across and stabbed it with my left hand.
I think the force of the impact knocked my hand closed more than anyhing else.

They didn't have ball sponsors yet back then, so all I got to take home was the bruise.
    :p

When my son was a HS senior, his baseball team was in the state quarter finals at Covaleski Stadium in South Bend, home to a minor league team. I was walking down the aisle toward my seat. The aisle was just to the right of the backstop. The RH batter hit a screaming foul that went a few feet over my head and hit a woman smack in the face. She was the mother of one of the team managers. I heard that she went through numerous facial surgeries over the next several years. I never heard anything beyond that. The weird thing is that she was sitting behind the backstop in a seat that should have been protected, but the ball curved around the backstop with an arc similar to a shanked golf shot.

Scott, your mom was precious cargo. Nice move.

Anybody remember this tragedy? I think they made some changes to the arena after this happened.
