Gators travel to College Station to open 2012 season. Gators Open At Aggies I doubt I can get a ticket, but it would be a great game to go to.
If you ever have a chance to attend a Texas A&M home game, you're in for a treat. I attended two Cotton Bowls in the early 90s, both ND vs. A&M, both won by ND. They were essentially A&M home games. Being the opponent, the first time I heard the cheers, they bothered me. They sounded like military marching cadences, very organized and staccato-like. By the time the game was over, I admired what they were doing. They never let up, even though they were losing. Great fans. The second time, I enjoyed listening to them.
Wow... nothing like being thrown in the deep end right off the bat! I sure hope it's a night game. Day games in early September are miserable. I'm jacked already.
You are catching the Gators at a good time Scott. Our scholarship numbers will still be down and our team will be very young. Our season this year was 6 - 6 with no offense. Hopefully the offense part changes next year. I would bet this game that early will be a prime time game. Should be a good game.
As a fan of college football I love the match-up and look forward to this game and A&M playing in the SEC...
The Gators picked a bad time and a bad team to travel with to College Station for A&M's first SEC game with the crowd as jacked up as they probably will be. Could get ugly for UF unless the team makes a miraculous improvement over the spring and summer.
I totally agree Sid, a team as high profile and successful as the University of Florida playing on a regular basis against another high profile, successful program in A&M is a win,win for the game of college football. Trivia question? When was the last time the Gators played west of the Mississippi when not playing in a bowl game?
So with the conference changes which of the Florida teams will be playing west of the Mississippi most often?
Well, let me throw a little gasoline on this fire. I would bet that if you added up all of the times that the big three in Florida played regular season games West of the Mississippi in the past 50 years, it would be less than Tennessee has in the past 10.
No doubt Tom. But it seems that with Missouri in the East that both of us will be making one trip West of the Mississippi on a regular basis.
Well one thing about A&M's move to the SEC it really won't be much different traveling. Neb, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Texas Tech and Missouri weren't exactly real close.
Miami and FSU have both played several games over the years west of the Mississipi so I don't believe in the past 10 years that Tenn would exceed that cumulative total. Tenn gets no extra credit from me because they have no really decent annual non-conference.....in state opponents to play and if they are going to inject a good team in the non-con then travel goes with home and home arrangements.
 We've seen Tennessee out here, off & on , for decades, playing both USC and UCLA. I can only remember seeing Miami once, in the Rose Bowl, against a non-western team who shouldn't have been there. Florida State has refused to travel west since Bobby Bowden was getting his arse kicked by San Diego State, although they did finally make a local appearance a few years ago at the Coliseum.
