Chaz Sutton from Georgia has grade issues and the Gators will not be able to send him a LOI for signing day. That's two guys, Franklin Green, from the same high school that we have lost due to grades. Rumor is that we will have a replacement for him but it may not be a defensive lineman. There is one more De/LB, William Green, from Alabama that the Gators feel pretty good about.
I see that he is going to talk to So.Carolina and that he hopes they will help him with a prep school placement or something like that.
Yes Terry, I should have posted that. With a lot of other Skybox conversation I think this points out a difference with the Gators and some other SEC schools. A difference in philosophy not a difference in standards for admission. In a situation like this, with some exceptions, the Gators will choose to move on and take another player rather than taking a chance that he might be able to come back later. That is a difference by choice and I think that should be clear as some other conversations come us such as that person couldn't get in Florida, Vandy etc etc etc. It's tough on the kid because this guy really wanted to be a Gator, but when he was offered the scholarship their were things he needed to do, and to get his grades in order was one of those things. I wish him luck and do not relish the thought of seeing him on the other side of the ball in future seasons. Good luck Chaz
Bill, As you know this guy could end up anywhere. If he has to go to Prep school, then the recruiting process starts over from the beginning doesn't it? In other words, if SC arranges a prep school placement that doesn't necessarily mean that the kid will end up at SC. Correct?
No doubt that schools who over sign knowing that certain kids are not going to qualify are hoping that after JC or Prep school that they will have an edge in recruiting the kid if he makes his grades. Of course things change and the next time around the kid could be looking other places and also maybe he doesn't pan out athletically at Prep school or JC and the original school doesn't even recruit him the 2nd time around.
You are right KP, however I think that some advantage does go to the school that signs and places him. Also there is always the chance that the kid does enough between now and the fall to be qualified, then the school that signs him has him. The Gators have apparently stopped the over signing and have moved to signing people they feel will qualify. Last year we did take a chance on John Brown, but I am pretty sure that he was making a big effort to qualify and the Gators liked his chances. Which is what happened. Like I said though, I hope this young man gets his grades in order and qualifies, if not I hope he makes it though the Junior College or prep school route.
