Ladies and gents...I am heading off to Indiana and Chicago for over a week so my posts will have to come from the hotel computer as I do not carry a laptop....Blackberry yes....laptop no.

In any event here is the latest on recruiting for the Gators and it's a pretty good story for those of us that bleed orange and blue...

This Gator class has come a long way since Terry asked us earlier about the few recruits the Gators had at that time.

There are 22 committed so far with a pretty good chance at one more and a possibility of getting two more. Two more would be our max as the running back, Moody, who transferred from USC counts in this years class so if we sign two more that brings us to our 25 max.

I'm very happy with the way this Gator class has come together.

Very good class for the Gators. Did you guys ever have a run in recruiting like this under Spurrier?

I don't believe the Irish will get any more recruits. There are a couple of kids comming to visit but they are all real long shots. We are still hanging on at #1 in Scout, but as has been pointed out not on Rivals or ESPN (Miami #1 on ESPN).

I think we'll finish with a consensus #5 type of class. Which is very good considering that we were 3-9 and looked horrible all year on the field. If Charlie had somehow been able to finish 7-5 or so this past year and finished looking strong..ie improving all year and got a minor bowl win. I believe we would have finished #1 a few of the guys we missed out on would have been on board. But it's still a great class.

Next years class is likely to be smaller but we need a bounce back year, another on the field disaster will result in a mediocre class and Charlie being on the hotseat for 2009 which is never very good for recruiting. Although inspite of being on the hotseat Coach Fran left new coach Sherman a large and very good class so sometimes a coach can overcome that but it's easier when it's State U. than a school like ND.

Never three consecutive years like this that I can remember Terry. Some good ones but never three straight like this.

As I recall most times Spurrier's recruiting seemed to follow along these same lines with regard to timing.

It would appear that we weren't doing squat until the final 2 or 3 weeks and then whammo!

It wasn't only Spurrier who got the last minute recruits in those days, it was much more common for recruits to wait until the end. I'm not sure just what made that change. I think there were some changes in rules and then there were always some coaches like Mack Brown and Jo Pa who recruited early.

In recent years it is much more common to get commitments early. I think Texas and Notre Dame have had their classes basically full for months.

I wonder how many college coaches work these numbers into their recruiting BS:

The NFL Draft - Most Will Not Make It to the League - Then What?

Chances of Playing Football in the NFL
5.6% of high school seniors play football at an NCAA college
2% of college seniors are drafted by NFL
.09% of high school seniors are drafted by NFL

Probably not many George. Those numbers do point out why it's important to get a real education for the football players in college though doesn't it?

I think the Irish need to add at least another player and they only have 2 that I know of on the board....Keith Wells and Milton Knox..both long shots, that I would love to see work out.

If we don't add another player, I think we'll be a consensus top 5 but not likely to hold on to #1 in either Rivals or Scout.

Your probably right but after the season we just had, I'll gladly take a class anywhere in the top 10 and not say a word. <E>:D</E></r>

Well late last night we got William Green from Alabama which moved us back to number 1. :)

We only have two left on our board I believe and will be happy if we get one of them.

On Rivals you are 13 points ahead of us, if you don't get another recruit and we do we'll jump back over you. But as I said above it's a long shot with both the guys still left on our board.

UF is #7 in Scout, I wonder why the disparity between the rankings?

Nobody has a clue whether or not these kids can play at the next level....my sense is that the disparity is indicative of the vast uncertainty surrounding these kids, their skills and the pundits upon whom we the consuming public rely upon to a degree well beyond that which they have earned by their credibility and integrity, imho!
