LSU looks as good as Bama and this is a road game for the Gators. Do the Gators stand a chance? My heart says yes, my head says probably not.
It was going to be tough enough but taking a true freshman QB into Tiger Stadium to start his first game ever for the Gators....that's not good.
Terry, here's an interesting article about the last time a freshman QB started at LSU. Chris Leak in 2003. LSU went on to win the rest of their games and beat Oklahoma for the BCS Championship. Let's hope history repeats for the Gators. Fla - LSU 2003
Bill you beat me to it. The LSU coaches that day were: Head Coach - Nick Saban Off. Coor. - Jimbo Fisher Def. Coor. - Will Muschamp I'll bet Will has given his version of what happened that day to his current team.... I can only hope it makes some sort of difference for the Gators. Chris Leak went on to become the MVP of the BCS Championship Game in 2006. Can Driskell start such a legacy?
Well Didn't Leak play extensively going into that game. I seem to remember as a true freshman in the opener at Miami that he played quite a bit, so he had a lot of game experience by the time he got to LSU. BTW who was the starter at QB that he unseated? It wasn't Grossman, he left when Spurrier left. Was it the kid who eventually transfered to Miami?
Leak did play vs. Miami and Tennessee.....both losses. He was ineffective going 18-27 for 169 yards.... O Tds..... 2 ints. Ingle Martin played more than did Leak is those first few games.
Leak didn't really unseat anyone. Brock Berlin had transferred to Miami the year before when Grossman had beat him out, Grossman went to the NFL after his junior year. Ingle Martin and Chris Leak both played a lot of minutes in the first two games and Leak took over as the Starter and Martin ended up transferring. So in that sense, yes Leak had more experience when he became the starter.
OK....it finally came to me what to predict for this game. Les Miles finally....FINALLY....has a trick play blow up in his face and UF gets the ball in LSU territory as a result in a tight 10-3 game precariously led by UF early in the second quarter. Driskel's running and a swing pass to Demps nets UF a 17-3 lead. Late in the half LSU's Qb presses a dumb pass over the middle that is a pick 6 and UF sports a 24-3 halftime lead. The Gators hang on for dear life in the second half.....kicking 2 Fgs while LSU roars back with three TDs and a FG...... Final UF 30 LSU 27 8)

Every season around this time of year we have what is known as "Upset Saturday"!!! ....Today is that day.......I hope..... 8)
Driskel is not starting, he also got an injury last week. Jacoby Brissett is, some Gator fans think he may end up beating Driskel out. Weis went after him strong this past recruiting season.
What's that? I can't hear you because my shoe phone is ringing.... Hey.....I am talking about mouth dropping upsets happening......like UF beating LSU would have been. At this rate I can see 4 unbeaten teams at the end because upsets like I am talking about seem very unlikely amongst the top 5 teams.
