And now this.... http://www.gatorsports.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070613/GATORS01/706130331 What puzzles me and even disturbs me is how far the GPD has fallen in their slimy zeal to make news in Gainesville. They set up a "sting" to arrest marijuana users buying $20 worth of pot for personal use? I personally have never heard of such a "sting". Nice going by the Gainesville boys in blue. I wonder how much that is costing the taxpayers of Alachua county. Now that said....given the history of Marcus Thomas last year I think these guys are stupid to follow along the same path and I do think they will each be suspended for some games but both should get second chances complete with mandatory drug testing. But....more than half of the UF student body could probably have been caught in this "sting". Utter nonsense and a waste of time and money by the GPD.
Eight grams for $20? That must be some pretty crappy pot. I'm sure more than half of the UF student body has better taste than that.
Well....there's something like 28.6 grams in an ounce right? Now why do I know that...... Some things you just never forget I guess...even after 30 plus years
The players are in off season now with no coaches to supervise and a lot of time on their hands, expect more athlete in trouble headlines between now and August. Texas just had a kid (Robert Joseph) who was in line to be the starting safety get caught burglarizing a vehicle, it currently is a misdemeanor in Texas, but he still got tossed from the team by Mack and he was pissed so he transfered. Bye Bye..
This is the sort of stuff that pisses me of about the police. Someone should go to jail for selling drugs.
You did get that the guy selling the pot was an undercover police officer don't you? Sort of like the policewomen who pose as prostitutes in stings. I wonder if this will be on COPS!! BTW MCG I couldn't agree with you less with regards to stings by the GPD or any other Police Dept across the country. Drugs including MJ are a big problem and they need to constantly keep the pressure up on both users and sellers.
COPS! is too busy putting together their NFL episodes that will run in August, including the weeklong series on the Cincinnati Bengals. 8)
George...I am just saying that I have never heard of a "sting" set up to bust buyers of a very small amount of pot. I can't believe there aren't a whole lot more important drug sting operations to orchestrate or much, much bigger criminal fish to fry in Gainesville. That the subjects arrested are UF athletes makes it even more suspicious. As I said...half the student population would be guilty of the same thing and when I was in school it was no exception. Funny I don't remember going to school at UF with any criminal types that needed to do hard time and make national news. Again though....these guys know the consequences of being athletes and how any drug use including MJ is more than frowned uopn by the coaches and the pro leagues they aspire to. It's a dumb thing for them to pursue no question and I personally do not approve of MJ or any other substance abuse for my own kids either. However...to be caught in such a fashion raises my questions as described.
Yeah, That's why it pisses me off. I hate the idea that cops can entrap someone like pretending to be a hooker or a drug dealer. Entrapment pisses me off.
Entrapment for MJ users is highly questionable as time and money well spent. Entrapment for scummy crack or heroin DEALERS is a whole different story. These guys at the GPD obviously aim low. Nice job....what balls.....not!
Wow...what low-lifes these guys are. Glad to see their heinous crimes are posted on the internet for me to digest: "http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/football/ncaa/06/10/bc.fbc.georgia.arrests.ap/index.html" I am so appalled. I hope that bitch Paris Hilton gets the 10 years in the clink she so deserves the rapscallion that she is. And don't even get me talking about that 17 year old black male in Ga. who knowingly accepted the sexual favors of a consenting 15 year old girl. That guy is the scum of the earth and should be stoned to death....yeah....that's the ticket! WTF are we coming to.......
I am honestly mystified at MCG's apparent outrage at the police. If these two idiots were not out looking to buy drugs they would never have been arrested. Now Meyer is touted as a great disciplinarian. This will obviously test him once again. This is all I have to say on this because I can't believe what I'm reading here.
The SI link didn't work but it was a report on a couple of Ga players who had an open beer. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/football/ncaa/06/10/bc.fbc.georgia.arrests.ap/index.html That's it...an open beer....no other bad behavior and one of them was 21. Now that may be news to Mark Richt and in the Ga student newspaper but news on CNNSI.....I don't think so. In any event it is being ignored that I said that the Fla players are stupid for engaging in an endeavor to buy pot and they will be punished by Meyer. Hello....this is the third time I have said that. However...I still can't agree with spending taxpayer money to set up such a crimestopping "sting". It was MJ they were after and a small quantity for personal use at that. It wasn't crack....it wasn't cocaine...etc. We will disagree on this in spite of your shock at my stance George.
I think everybody heard that you said it was a stupid thing for the players to do, what people (me included) are in disagreement with you over is the whole thing about Stings being bad and a waste of govt money.
"whole thing about Stings being bad and a waste of govt money." Now I see why celebrities are so often misquoted and their words slanted to new meanings instead of their specific intent. You catch my drift....
