This is not meant to offend anyone....it is not rubbing it in....I am just proud of what my school's team has accomplished and I think it's ccol enough to post about it.

The largest margins of victory for any team vs. a #1 team in the history of NCAA National title games: (note: '97 was the Bowl Alliance NC game)

    "1. UF by32 points (52-20) over No. 1 FSU, 1/2/97
    2.UF by 27 points (41-14) over No. 1 Ohio State, 1/8/07

    and officially here...

    http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/2006/Internet/toughest%20schedule/ia_9games_cumm.pdf

...the 2006 Gators became the SECOND team in NCAA HISTORY to win the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP while playing the NATION'S TOUGHEST SCHEDULE. The first team?? Yup... the 1996 Gators.

No need for a disclaimer...those are great accomplishments.

I notice Sagarin has Fla. as 8th toughest schedule...Stanford is #1.

OSU drops from #24 in your list to #38 in Sagarin. Boise drops to #90.

I wonder how many times a team has had to gear up for the #2 team three times in a season, played the final #1 team, played three bowl teams in their non- conference schedule and still ended up with the #38 toughest schedule.

That is indeed impressive. It should put to rest any arguments about which conference is the strongest in 2006. For the record, I have said here a few times in the past that I believe the SEC is the strongest conference.

    Thanks guys.

Sid....stronger this year and pretty competitive at least most years.

If I had to take one conference over the span of 15 years I would have to pick the SEC as the strongest.

That doesn't mean that some years...some conferences may be better.

The Big East was great in bowl games vs. lesser opposition but I still have doubts that they would escape the rigors of a weekly SEC schedule this past season.

    Tell...

<t>Something else impressive to me is have a peek at this weeks SI coverage of the game. Florida has great looking Nike unis and shoe combos. I cannot image the $$ amounts of gear that will be sold there.</t>

Mo, Congrats on a great year, but don't let it get to your head.

If FL played the toughest schedule in the country, there is no way they would be champions.

Schedule is a key ingredient to being a champion, the weaker, the more likely the success.

Just for the record, they were ranked 42nd toughest schedule in the nation. The experts who calculate SOS do take into account the strength of your opponents schedule. The SEC plays one of the weakest non conference schedules year in and year out sans a few reputable schools like UT who are willing to stick their necks out. Many of these 8-5 , 10-3 records are overinflated because they had too many Wofford's on their schedules.

You have a lot ot be proud of, but teams which played the toughest schedules generally have losing records.

Of the top ten toughest schedules, only Arizona came close to a winning record finishing 5-6. The rest had 3 or fewer victories.

You da champ Mo, no more spinnies !!

    AJ,

Where do you get your schedule ranking...PAC 10 Weekly? :D

The one I list is the NCAA's ranking.

    Did you open the link?

Florida's bowl worthy opponents had a 7-3 record in their bowl games.

Give me one other school that could beat that in their schedule and I'll consider it.

Thanks, AJ. Even when Arizona doesn't have a losing season (we were 6-6) you go and give us one. And on top of it you make me trudge out here and announce it.

    You're the best, buddy

    Hey Rick,

Greenfield's rankings were not complete. Looks like he missed a game for some of the teams. I knew Zona's 5-6 was wrong as everyone plays 12 games, but I was too lazy to loo it up.

That was really a backhanded compliment! Trying to give Zona some love. Zona was actually the only non losing team to break the top 10 in schedule difficulty. Could they have gone 8-4 9-3 with Fl's schedule? ( just kidding Mo)

Mo gets carried away sometimes and doesn't want to hear about the difficulty of playing games on the road and overestimating an opponent's record because they played schools like Wofford..

Arizona had a nice (for them) little winning streak going with consecutive wins at then #25 Wazzu, #8 Cal at home, and at Oregon. All that stood between them and a winning season was the Territorial Cup game against the Sun Gerbils, and they fell apart like a cheap suit.

    But hey - whattayagunnado?

Zona's bowl opponents were 5-2 in bowls...not bad.

Florida's bowl opponents were 7-3........almost the same winning percentage and more of them.

Give me a break AJ, only the most biased would have the Gator schedule ranked at #42.

But then Greenfield's rankings are the standard aren't they? That's why most of us have not even heard of him.

I'll let you and MCG duke this out, but calling our schedule 42nd in the nation is straining credibility.

    9/9 at Wake Forest L 14-13
    9/16 at Virginia Tech L 36-0
    9/30 Virginia L 37-0
    10/7 at Alabama L 30-14
    10/14 Florida State L 51-24
    10/21 Miami L 20-15
    10/28 Vanderbilt L 45-28
    11/4 Navy L 38-13
    11/11 at Boston Coll L 28-7
    11/18 at Georgia Tech L 49-21
    11/25 North Carolina L 45-44

    This guy is an idiot.

The above is Duke's schedule who had the second hardest on his...ahem....list.

Their bowl opponents were 3-5 in the bowls.

He must be an ACC homer and anti-Gator for sure.

    Duke opponents were 62-61 overall.

    UF opponents were 100-49.

Further proof he has zero credibility:

Miss. State is ranked third with the following schedule:

    South Carolina L 15-0
    9/9 Auburn L 34-0
    9/16 Tulane L 32-29
    9/23 at UAB W 16-10 OT
    9/30 at LSU L 48-17
    10/7 West Virginia L 42-14
    10/14 Jacksonville St W 35-3
    10/21 at Georgia L 27-24
    10/28 Kentucky L 34-31
    11/4 at Alabama W 24-16
    11/18 Arkansas L 28-14
    11/25 at Ole Miss L 20-17

They played UAB, Tulane and W.Va while UF played SMiss, UCF and FSU
    OOC.

Same conference teams except they played at Ole Miss and UF played Tenn in Knoxville.

They are third ranked and UF is 42nd?

He is obviously a one man show....a quack.

AJ, just wondrin what was your "spin" on the analysis I put forth above.
