Went to the Bucs-Texans preseason game tonight and there was this misguided fan who chose to wear a Hook 'em Horns Texas tee-shirt along with cap. It was heartwarming to see the reaction of so many Gator fans around me......extolling the dude to go home.....assailing him with the Gator Bait chant...etc. Man.....it's nice to be home.
That really does explain a lot. There are people at Tennessee that act that way as well. They care nothing about fans from other universities and have no thought of trying to get to know them or understand them. Just be glad that LeGarrette Blount wasn't anywhere around or your jaw might be swollen today.
If anything Tom it was him that was a little too aggressive....and drunk....and eventually he was removed. The Gator jests were all pretty good natured.
I think some of you didn't bother to read MCG's last post. If he got removed from the stadium it wasn't because of Gator fans.
Uh, Bill... The being removed was a hindsight addition to the story that was never spoke of before. The original post suggests that the gang mentality took over when someone with different colors was found to be on their turf. If this guy was drunk and creating a problem, the true classy thing to do is to make the problem worse with these chants???
I use the term heartwarming because I have been in Gator exile for 31 years....surrounded at events like these by Big Ten fans who understandably didn't have much affinity for Gators. It "warms the heart" to know I'm back home. As I said....by having to be removed by the cops I would say that's all you need to know about this guy.
I obviously used a poor choice of words with "assail". How about "serenaded him" with chants. Maybe that would convey more of the fun of it instead of the way you took it.
As judge Judy would say: The drunken part wasn't in your answer sir. That would have been a key part to the story that you never mentioned. You left that part out, sir. If it doesn't make sense, it probably isn't true. This tells me that MCG acts the same way in public that he does here.
Tom, all I said is that I don't think some posters read MCG.s second post. I agree with him he used a poor choice of words in his first post but he did clarify. It was after your post and I think he clarified because of what you said. But I do understand what he means when he says it's great to be home for football games. Not that I want to move back to Florida, but I do enjoy going to games there.
Bill, after moving away from Tennessee 20 years ago, I can relate to: it's great to be home for football games. I certainly do. However, attacking others because of the colors they wear is nothing short of gang mentality.
Wait a minute Buck T, am I to assume that a Game between OSU and UM is a Heartwarming experience for the visiting team?
Yeah Huskerman I'm sure all those Ohio fans are goody two shoes who just go to the game and sit their quietly and love the Michigan fans.
Every team and every stadium has its share of a**hole fans. That's why god created the big screen TV. 8)
Thank you George and if my subscription to the sports channels works like I think it will I'll get to watch my first Gator game in HD today.
Bear in mind this is soley your interpretation of the story. I would not classify what I witnessed as "attacking".....more like good natured ribbing that mostly brought smiles all around. Note I said "smiles".....not "derisive laughter" as I am sure you are reading it. ....and...before this post gets lost in a usual morass of oversensitivity let's not lose sight of the real point of the post which is to illustrate that Florida fans at this point realize where the real prize lies......in the Rose Bowl in Jan. against probably Texas or maybe Oklahoma.
Far from it Husker.....however, when I do see rude and disrespectful behavior towards the visitors, I'm embarrassed by it, it reflects badly on my hometown and alma mater, make efforts to discourage it and to be certain, don't characterize is as "heartwarming". But hey, that's just me.....
Keep in mind BT this guy shows up with very pronounced Texas Longhorn gear at a Bucs game probably just to get the reaction he got.....he wasn't an opposing fan at Florida Field. You are acting like I think it's cool to harass opposing fans in the Swamp which is far from the truth.
