Looks like gas this summer is going well north of $4. http://fuelfix.com/blog/2012/01/20/houston-gas-prices-predicted-to-hit-new-high-by-memorial-day/ Who will the administration blame? Bush I guess.
My new car is getting 21mpg in the city, that's a significant boost from my old Murano which got about 15mpg. So I'm glad a made the move.
Everything is Bush's fault... Romney's fault... Santorum's fault... I don't care. I've got my hybrid Ford SUV that gets 37 mpg. Bring it!
My 470 h.p. 392 hemi challenger gets 19 in the city unless I am fun driving. The absolute loest tank average has been 17.3 and the highest 24.8.
This summer driving my Terrain across a good part of the country I averaged over 26 mpg. Used the "eco" feature and usually had the cruise on 81 mph.
What George said!!! My A4 Turbo is averaging 26.5, and will go over 30 on a straight up highway trip. Who says you can't have fun and decent mileage?
Yep. I've talked to several other owners who are getting the same results. For once I guess the Manf estimated on the conservative side. Of course, if I go around "fun driving" as Tom calls it... the MPG falls quickly.
Gasoline over $4 per gallon here in the Inland Empire. Gas already over $5 per gallon in Santa Barbara and some places in Los Angeles County and some spots in NoCal... Serious talk in Sacramento of charging hybrid owners (like me) a $100 per year surcharge because we're "avoiding" paying our "fair share" of gas taxes...
... what about motorcycle riders? I get better mileage on a full dress Harley than most hybrids. That is another reason I am not as concerned about having the performance car. I plan on riding the bike far more than I do the car. Of course, I have to be in the US to make that happen!
I have seen speculation that with the Iranian situation heating up that gas could go to 5$ gallon...if it's there in Nov I wonder if it will have an impact on the election. I remember Tailback blaming Bush for gas being above 1.60/gal and saying that under a Democrat that would never happen. President of course doesn't control the price of gas, but it is a political number that helps/hurts the President.
Stuart Varney on FOX Business put it well today. He said that many American families have just enough money to make it to the end of the month. As gas prices explode they are not making it so they have to cut things like going to a movie or dinner once per week. Next will come cable TV or kids sport leagues. Then they are angry and when they get a chance to vote somebody's going to pay. He also said that Obama thumbing his nose at the Canadians on the pipeline in the middle of this mess may go down as one of the worst-timed political decisions in history.
 Obama's decision to stop new offshore drilling is coming home to roost too. It will take years to restart those wells, meanwhile the oil refineries have cut back on capacity and that will take years to recover too...
I think it's interesting that the White House is now saying that OB never wanted to cut the XL pipeline and that the Republicans were the ones that forced this...he just wanted the studies to be completed so they would have all the information. Republicans hopefully will get out front on that load of crap. If the price of gas does hit the 5$ range it will most certainly be a political burden for the President. We need to get going in the Gulf.
