I'm glad I'm in the green, although it's not the dark green.

If I thought my Infiniti would run on urine I'd piss in the tank every morning.

As it is I use 87 now and it runs fine. 87 at the Jersey shore is now $3.71.

Here in North Carolina we are kind of in the middle. I use the 87 octane myself and it's about $3.75 here in North Carolina. Diesel is about $4.50 and my F350 Diesel Ford is sitting in the driveway.

We drove to Florida, though Georgia, from Wednesday until yesterday. Georgia has always been quite a bit cheaper than either Florida or North Carolina in the past, now it's about 6 cents.

Gas up to $3.669 and Diesel at $4.359. The decision to buy the two Honda Accords is looking better by the day.

Cindy and I sold the 11 acres within the first two weeks it was on the market. The right buyier at the right time... Closing scheduled for 13-June. No nibbles on the house yet but we have a plan.

We signed the papers this past Saturday to purchase a house in Round Rock. We close on that one on 16-Jun with the movers to arrive 20-June. Goodbye Jarrell. The proceeds from the sale of the property that are not being used for the closing on the new house will go into an account for payment of the old house's mortgage. We will lease it out to cover the mortgage with the account accepting the lease payments. The account can handle up to two years of vacancy. That should carry us for four to five years before the account runs dry. If the housing market is not back by then, it will never be back. Jarrell gets a major highway crossing IH-35 that connects the West side of Austin to North Williamson county. This community grew by over 600 homes in the last 12 months. The growth has slowed due to the price of fuel however.

Saw gas today for over $4. I commute less than 3 mi. to work. Mary is 2 mi. I wonder about folks who choose to live 40+ miles from their work. It must be quite a drain. And if they choose to move, who wants to live there? Could it be that things get so expensive that people might want to move back to Detroit.....nah, it couldn't get that bad.....could it?

If you assume gas goes up $1.50 per gallon...and your car gets 25 miles per gallon...then five days a week X 80 miles = 400 miles = 16 gallons of gas = $24 per week = $1200 extra per year...not insignificant but still worth keeping perspective when compared to the total costs of owning/leasing/maintaining that vehicle.

The kind of "perspective" most folks use is like the guy who does my yard (sorry...I'm lazy and have very bad knees)...gas goes up $1.00 a gallon and he sticks on a $5.00 fuel surcharge each time...excuse me but you don't burn up 5 gallons of gas all summer mowing my little lawn.

The guy that mows my existing 1/2 acre does not live in this neighborhood. If he added $5 fuel surcharge, I would agree without question. He shows up with the lawn equipment in tow on a 16ft utility trailer being pulled by a pickup. He charges me $60 to mow, weed eat, and rake up the clippings. I will be using him at the new house as well.

Sounds like it would be more reasonable for $5.00 in your situation...but how many gallons does it take to haul to and then mow 1/2 acre? I have no clue.

And watch out for the $20 surcharge.

I was watching Senator Patrick Leahy speaking on the senate floor the other day.

He was ripping the Arabs, OPEC and other oil producing nations for the current pump price. He accused them of not producing to their capacity, price fixing, coercion and a host of other accusations. He blames them entirely for this situation.

It hit me like a bolt from the blue. No wonder these countries despise us so much. We flaunt our wealth and our morality on them, we force our governmental models on them, we openly do nothing to help our own energy situation and the only time we approach them is to threaten them or invade their shores.

Good math. Unfortunately, gas just went up another dime since I last posted. That's another $25 a year and there's no end is sight. Gas could easily go up another 1.50 and we're now talking about $200 a month more. That's beer money for a whole week :)

Gip...we need cars that run on beer.

George, I heard that the US Congresspersons from the Chicago area were ranting about how they were burdened with the highest fuel prices in the country...blaming the oil company conspiracy...demanding something be done...completely ignoring the fact that the reason is due to their having the highest taxes on gasoline in the country.

Well I doubt if Tailback will read this, but since he was the chief proponent that American Oil Companies and Bush and his buddies have conspired to drive up the price of gas, I have to post it anyway.

In Europe, where the Govt are liberal and there are extensive socialistic type of conditions to protect the worker and the citizen, gas is hitting 9$ a gallon. And that's without Bush and his cronies lining their pockets.

It's so high that there are stikes planned or ongoing for any number of sectors of the economey.

Gas even more expensive in Europe

I don't know what the relief is, well to do people can afford new higher fuel efficient cars, most can't they are stuck with what they have, not to mention that in the US public transportation is an option for only a small segment of the population.

I hope I'm alive when the affordable alternatives reduce oil consumption to a point where the OPEC countries return to the poverty stricken state that they had before the internal combustion engine.

Diane, the work commute is good news for us. The bad part is that grandkids live aprox. 200 and 250 mi. away.
As to the weather, thunderstorms, hail, tornados, snow.....geez, and I thought it was all earthquakes and fires out there. :D

I'm not going to buy another car at this point. My Mitsubishi gets just under 30 on the highway and low 20's around town here. My Ford F -350 sits in the driveway unless I need to take it to Lowes or something similar, in a rare situation where we both need a car that day.

The Ford was going to take us out west this summer before my accident then we moved our plans to next summer. As of now we are not likely to take that trip although we may take a shorter one to Maine.

We also try to go together with one or the other of Jeanne's sisters who live very close to us when going to town.

We have cut our driving by a significant amount and intend to keep it that way.

Diane, good luck with the house hunting. I wouldn't want to drive 110 miles a day even with lower gas prices and certainly not with the prices now.

JO'Co has to be dedicated to those kids.

We are moving to the new house on June 20. We will no longer have the RV sitting beside the house. We found a storage facility that specializes in boats and RVs. We rented a pull through 50 foot unit and keep the 5th wheel along with the truck at that site. It is only about 3 miles from the new house. We can go any time we need to and pick up the truck if we need to use it.

We were planning on a trip to see Tennessee beat... er, uh, make that competitively play UCLA this fall. Fuel prices and the expense of an extra house payment may have just killed those plans.
