I know there aren't many Hockey Fans here, me included, but the Irish made their first Frozen Four and will play the much hated Stripeheads from Michigan in the SemiFinals.

    Go Irish!!

Those Helmets are just as ugly on a Hockey Player as on a Football Player!!

I guess the possibility exists that North Dakota Fighting Sioux could play the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for the championship. Both have interlocking ND as their team logo. Interesting side light.

A little payback for last year's loss to the Spartans. First time a no. 4 seed got to the Frozen four. They knocked off top ranked NH in the first game. This coach Jackson is doing a great job. We've got to build this guy a top facility to match his success.

I went to the opening of Shea Stadium. It's being replaced. I went to the opening of the Pontiac Silverdome. It's been replaced. I remember that dedication game against UCLA 40 years ago. The JACC is too old. (Come to think of it, so am I :D )

From what I can tell there are plans in the making for an upgrade to the Hockey facilities, but things move glacially at ND with regards to stuff like this. Mike Brey was promised a whole lot of stuff when he signed on, finally they have announced they have plans and a lead donor but I don't think they have a date for breaking ground.

I doubt if the downturn in the market has helped anything either.

    Gip,

I attended the first event in the RCA Dome in Indy (IU vs. the 1984 Olympic basketball team). It's being replaced. I attended the first A-level minor league baseball game in 1993 in Fort Wayne's Memorial Stadium. It's being replaced. I guess we both are old.

    Sid,

What are you hearing about ND and Ft. Wayne getting together to host a Hockey Regional? Ft. Wayne a hockey town?

Thanks, Gip. Yes, FW is a great hockey town. The facility, Memorial Coliseum, is updated and excellent. The seating for hockey is around 8-9,000. I would be surprised if the event did not sell out if it was held there.

Well we do have the Comets here in Houston, but they are a basketball team. I wonder if the Ft. Wayne people had to spell it with a K to avoid confusion with the 4 time WNBA Champoion Comets, or is it possible that the good people of Ft. Wayne just can't spell!! :D :D :D

The Komets have been in existence for many, many years, long before the team you refer to. They were one of the original teams in the International League but had to drop out several years ago when that league decided to ramp up to large city locations and increase the expense of belonging. There is significance to the K, but I can't recall at the moment. I'll find out and report back.

Wow! Irish off to a fast start. Lead 3-0 at the end of 1. Could be a big upset brewing.

    Double wow!!!
Irish in OT. After blowing a 3 goal lead and then a 4-3 lead late they won in the extra session. Some big paybacks so far. And looming in the championship game, who else but BC!!! :D

CONGRATS ON YOUR VICTORY FELLOW CONFERENCE MEMBER! BEAT BC.

    Signed,

    Evil Empire

This was a great game and a huge one for your guys. Jackson has done an amazing job. This Michigan club had talent, speed and formerly solid goaltending. Our coach is probably my favorite Michigan coach who I used to watch when he played center for the Red Wings. The semi final results took me by surprise as I was assuming a Fighting Sioux/Wolverine final. Hope you guys left a little bit in the gas tank for BC for they really did not expend a whole lot of energy whipping up on North Dakota.

Watched the game with Crazy John...he's in mourning.

Was a really good hockey game...not sure what happened to Meetchicken on that last play in overtime...they were completely unable to get to the puck or clear it out...tired maybe?

Anyway congrats to Notre Dame...managed to hang on after the Wolverines were able to turn the game back to their favor. I was pretty sure that they'd skate with abandon in the overtime but I didn't see it.

I was reading a ND board when somebody posted we were beating Mich 3-0, so I figured the game must be almost over as I seem to remember most Hockey games are like soccer 0-0 or 1-0 is not uncommon. So I turn the TV to ESPN2 and see that it's still the 1st period. I go to bed figuring that the Evil Empire will rally in the last 2 quarters and our rag tag bunch of kids with big hearts and dreams will not be able to hold off the CCCP.

Ah me of little faith!! :)
