I am hoping UF can win but if not I think it is best anyway. A close loss to LSU followed by a win at FSU and a bowl win over a decent opponent beats the hell out of a win over LSU... a loss to FSU.... an ugly beatdown by Bama.... and a bowl loss. So all is not lost if the Tigers win on Sat.
Speaking of LSU I don't know if it's been mentioned but local media saying the Jimbo Fisher might be on the short list at LSU.
Oh he may go but FSU has been as successful in the last 20 years as LSU. Unless Fisher knows something bad is about to come down at FSU, I look at this as a lateral move.
Mainly I think the problem is that both LSU and UF have outstanding defenses, but LSU has a semblence of an offense, UF has continued to struggle on offense. Will this be 2 Purdue QB's, Etley for sure will start for LSU, will Appleby start for UF? McElwain was known for his offense, are the Gators surprised that he hasn't been able to get that righted from the Musschmap years or was the talent esp at QB too much to over come? Have his recruiting classes been good on offense so that you have a feeling that it will come around maybe next year?
Florida's recruiting classes fell a little bit over the last couple of years and Del Rio was a walk-on at Alabama. I think I would take LSU in this game because of their defense and the fact that Florida's qb (whoever it will be) may be a problem. Let's see what Fournette does! 8)
Been reading that the UF players are getting a bit jacked about the comments made of them being "scared" or "ducking" the Tigers back in October.... when Fournette was out no less. Many of the players have families that were directly in harms way of a menacing storm. How soon we forget about Katrina I guess.
No Dave, I listened to the press conference with the LSU AD as well as a call he made to a local show here in Alabama. He made it abundantly clear that they never forgot Katrina and understand completely the dangers of the storms. That is why they offered to play the game every which way but forfeit and Florida would have no part of it. They offered to play a day early, a day late, they offered to fly the whole operation (AND PAY FOR IT) to Baton Rouge. You can say a lot about this situation, but you can't say LSU forgot about Katrina. They tried to work with you every way they could, and Foley walked away from all of them Foley groupie and SEC expert Paul Fienbaum even said that Foley was squarely to blame for this game not being played that weekend. As it turned out with the storm, they could have done that. Foley got what he wanted in terms of the date of the game, he just lost the ability to host and that's because he did duck out of this.
Foley may have been considering the fan base which is spread out all over the state some at long distances and who did not have plans or hotel rooms in Gainesville on Sun. Night. Easy to say play the next day but hard to pull off logistically. Then it probably just became a pissing match between Foley and Alleva.
One of the guttiest wins I have seen from UF with something important on the line like the SEC East title. All those injuries and having to play in Baton Rouge and they gutted it out. Proud of this team today! Go Gators!!
Yeah has to be a very satisfying win, all the talk of Gators trying to duck LSU to go to LSU and beat them. Yup pretty satisfying win I'd say.
2 great defenses and 1 offense that shot themselves in the foot over and over. Man, kick a FG one time Coach O! lol
LSU may have shot themselves in the foot but the Florida defense was at least holding the gun for 'em....
Parting shots on the Hurricane Matthew scheduling controversy: From ESPN.com: This game was played in Baton Rouge because Alleva drew a line in the turf, demanding his program not lose a home game following the postponement in Gainesville, Florida, due to Hurricane Matthew. "The way I look at it, they got what they deserved," McElwain told reporters. "It should have been worse." He did not hold back. The families of 52 Gators were in the warning zone of the hurricane when the game was postponed, despite Alleva's insistence it should be played at Florida. "The incident that happened back then, there were lives involved," McElwain said. "... People get called out when there is tragedy happening." Wait until LSU fans realize that because of their AD, the Tigers have to play the next two games in this series on the road in Gainesville. Alleva's Folly means LSU will play only three home SEC games in 2017. "This was actually supposed to be a home game," McElwain continued, "so the way we looked at it is stay undefeated at home. We're 6-0 in The Swamp." Whatever the outcome, just-retired Florida AD Jeremy Foley came out the more honorable man. His Gators played like they were the most deserving team.
Everyone got what the deserved in this situation but the results on field had nothing to do with that. I saw Jimmy Mac shaking and crying after the game. If I were to have bet money that I'd see him shaking and crying after a game this year, it would be after Alabama.. I never knew LSU meant so much to you guys.
The LSU game has always been a significant game for Florida. This year was especially so because they called us out...the venue was changed to their place and it was for a Division title.
