Great article Terry At the moment I have more faith the Hurricanes will have a top 10 defense this season than my grandchildren farming citrus. The Canes were rated 116 out of 120 last season.... I'm not too excited about the GMO approach mainly for the politics of it. I just don't see it being readily accepted by the public. The company in this article Southern Gardens is really US Sugar Corporation. They own the rights to this particular GMO tree and want it to work on several levels. There are several other avenues being looked at with something similar to a nicotine patch that shows potential. This patch would be an antibiotic pad that is incorporated into the tree to slow the greening bacterium. It's not the most optimistic of times in citrus from Florida to California back to Brazil.
Hey REC, you are supposed to be following the Gators now. I read the Canes are favored to win their division in the ACC. Since the Gators are only figured to be 3r best in the SEC East I guess you guys should be favored when we play in 5 weeks.
I will be following the Gators AFTER the Canes... I am looking forward to the game, if memory serves, this is the last game scheduled for the foreseeable future between these old time rivals. For the first time in quite some time the talent level should be evenly matched. There are always lots of unknowns and I would think with your QB having an emergency appendectomy last week and the RB Jones fighting some kind of viral infection it only raises more questions. I wish this game was a night game and not at noon time. It will be 95 degrees with 110% humidity in Miami. I know it's not the most popular item on this board but Miami with Al Golden at the reign is about to become relevant in the college football world again. Our offense should be one of the best out there this season, it's the defense where all the question marks are....One positive is we return 20 starters from last season and the players have grown in the off-season tremendously. http://miamiherald.typepad.com/umiami/2013/08/canes-defense-is-bigger-for-sure-but-are-they-going-to-be-better.html
Re: popular. Not so, Ralph. Miami is now ND's conference brother. How ironic is that? Most folks who follow college football, including yours truly, know of Golden and respect how he runs his program. I am certain that Miami is well on the road back to relevance. Speaking only for myself, I am watching with interest.
