And for the record I don't think Florida belongs that high. However it won't matter as we play S. Carolina next weekend, Georgia two weeks from now and end the season with FSU. So we either lose and drop or if we get though the schedule we are that good. So it comes out in the end. I have never seen the computers treat us this good. Notre Dame has the next best record with the computers. I would have Alabama number 1 and Oregon number 2. First BCS Standings
Bill, I'm just glad it is a mathamatical impossibility for my Wolvies to play Alabama again. M is developing in a pretty good team but I do not want to see us climb into the ring with that team again. With Oklahoma out of the way, it looks like K State may have the best chance out of the remaining top teams ( excluding Ala) to run the table IF they beat W. Va on the road next week. Their remaining potential banana peels would be Texas and OKla St at home and TT on the road which seems a lot less formidable that what the other major undefeated teams will face in the weeks to come.
Interesting. Alabama by a huge margin.....the next 3 teams separated by only .0129......then ND....then another huge dropoff. It makes for interesting conversation, but the only certainty is that each week the top teams and the margins of separation will change. I have no idea where ND will be at the end of the season, but it's nice to be where we are after 6 games.
How in heck did we make #49 ahead of 6 other SEC teams? I just want to see how far down we go after Alabama this week and South Carolina the next week. 50 Missouri 58 Mississippi 61 Vanderbilt 63 Arkansas 75 Kentucky 78 Auburn
They are all three SEC East so, Yes... At this point, maybe Kentucky is beatable by the mistake proned Vols.
8) Banana Peel Chart: Alabama vs. @ Tennessee Mississippi State @LSU Texas A&M Florida vs. South Carolina Georgia (@Jacksonville) @Florida State Oregon vs. @Arizona State @USC @Cailfornia Stanford @Oregon State Kansas State vs. @West Virginia Texas Tech Oklahoma State @TCU @Baylor Texas Notre Dame vs. BYU @Oklahoma Pittsburgh @Boston College @USC There's plenty of slippery stuff left out there for everybody. Some of the one-loss teams haven't been eliminated yet either...
I know right? Might as well say Bama has to play Auburn... etc. That said..... at OU and at USC look like BCS title busters. It's a toss up who gets to be beat by Alabama in January.
Not certain about who that would be yet but I can tell you who is served up on the dinner plate this week!
Maybe everybody is fighting for the space to get beaten by Alabama...but history shows that sometimes the can't be beaten team does get beat. Nobody gave Penn State a chance in the game with Miami where the 'Canes showed up wearing Camo. They were an awesome team, Vinny Testaverde the Heisman Winner at QB....but they got beat. How about that FSU team that lost to OU, had Chris Weinke the Heisman Trophy winner and couldn't be beat...but they lost. Then there was that UF team that "lucked" into the 2006 championship game against Ohio State...unbeatable...hold on they hammered them. USC in 2005 was better than the Army of Darkness, not 1 but 2 Heisman Trophy winners and a bunch of future Pro's...except that they didn't have Vince Young.
Wasn't that the 1985 season? The season where Miami and Tennessee ended up in the Sugar Bowl on 1-Jan-1986? The bowl game where Tennessee was a 5 TD underdog due to Tony "Say yes to drugs" Robinson, the Vols big time QB being out with a blown knee??? The game where Daryl Dickey, the son of Dickless Doug Dickey, was singing "Please Coach Majors... I don't wanna go!" The game where Testaverde threw one TD to Michael "Pass the Cocaine" Irvin in the 1st qtr and ended the rest of the game's plays by laying on his back looking up at the ceiling of the Super Dome??? The game where Tennessee won 35-7??? Nope... doesn't ring a bell... 8) 8) 8) Sorry Ralph... Gotta find something to grin about this year and it does give me a very weak ray of hope for the Alabama and South Carolina games the next two weeks! Thanks TOK for bringing me back to the light.
No problem Tom I remember Paterno mentioning the key to his victory over Miami was the game film from the 85 Vols/Canes game... He had to request it through the NCAA and the Vols came through..... Damn that film guy
Actually, Auburn vs Alabama is a tougher draw. To an extent, I get what JOCO is saying about Boston College and Pitt. Those are two teams that (no matter what they will ever admit) absolutely live to ruin great Notre Dame seasons. If we roll in unbeaten, we will become their Super Bowl. Right now the talk in Alabama is the very real chance that Alabama A&M may beat Auburn. That still doesn't mean those Auburn kids didn't grow up hating Alabama like they need air to breath... because they did and do. Still, not very good teams and great teams should handle them. When we're talking about the top 10 of the BCS, we should be talking about great teams. I see no one is still talking about Oregon State.. That's interesting. Did anyone see what they did to BYU? They control their own destiny. Looking at how those rankings sit now and guesstimating how teams rise/fall after losses that are sure to come... Oregon State could be in a real nice spot if they run the table. Also, I don't know if you guys saw this.. by AJ McCarron went down against Missouri and Alabama's offense looked totally out of sync and downright shitty at times. I thought that was interesting. They have a new OC.. The test of those new coordinators isn't often in how the existing talent does, but in how they develop the talent in the back of the depth chart.. Could be nothing, but it's worth noting. Florida controls their own destiny, period..and they've flat out earned it.
Now I know I am living in some alternate universe. Seriously, thanks Corey. I never expected the Gators to be at this point this year. However I will take it. There are several teams that I think control their own destiny. Alabama Florida Oregon Win out and probably be there, Notre Dame Kansas State Oregon Win out and there is a good chance LSU S. Cal S. Carolina Oklahoma Miss State I think the most likely scenarios are Alabama vs one of the other teams in the first two lists. Florida is non likely to beat S. Carolina, Georgia, FSU and Alabama. But???????
Only change I'd make to Bill's list is Miss State, if they somehow win out they won't be locks, but pretty likely as they would have beaten Alabama and the SEC East champion. So Undefeated SEC Champion highly likely, although Auburn didn't make it in 2005. If Oregon wins out, and either ND or KSU win out then Miss State might have a hard time jumping those 2 but it would be possible since neither ND or Kansas State would have that "extra" game in the Conference Championship. edit: I think it's not likely that we win out. I think so far out offense has been too eratic, even with a great defense. BTW: Bill I have to say I have now seen highlights of the Vandy/UF game and Driskell has really come on strong. That long TD run he made he just blasted past those dbs and out ran them to the goal line. Very impressive.
Ditto for me on that for the Irish ( OU and/or USC?? ).... and for UF as well. After the last two years I'm still skeptical even though I was at the LSU game in person and it was a very legit win for UF. At FSU will be a toughie and Bama with Saban still looks extremely intimidating, So....nice that UF has made big strides and hopefully the Gators make at least the Cap One Bowl. But BCS title game? nah.....probably not.
Terry, I don't disagree about Miss State and debated whether to put them in list three or list three. I put them where I did because I have some doubts that if two of Oregon, Notre Dame and Kansas State win out I am not sure they can come from number 12 to number 1 or 2. And I would say that your description of Notre Dame fits the Gators well. I am very happy with Driskel. I think he needs to come along in his passing game but that running ability is one heck of a weapon. Vandy obviously decided to stop Gillisee and left the outside open to Driskel. All three of his touchdown runs he was literally untouched. And he has great speed.
There's no team in America that has proven on the field what the Florida Gators have proven to date. That's my opinion anyway. Where you go from here with that, who knows? You got it all right there. I think the SEC Champion gets into the NC game no matter what. Cry all you want non-SEC fans but this is the by-product of this jacked up situation we're in with the BCS. Looking at the BCS poll, how many SEC teams are up near the top 20? It's incredible. One loss, two loss, I just don't think it matters. It will be the SEC Champ vs whoever survives the beauty pageant train wreck down the stretch.
