We finally got access to the Dodgers for the first time in nearly two years. I watched the game last night, so I can have some informed opinions about the team. Let's start with an easy one. Vin Scully has been the Dodgers broadcaster since 1950. He's seen them come and he's seen them go, and he claims that Dodger rookie centerfielder Joc Pederson is the greatest CF that the team has ever had. That's quite a statement considering players like HOFer Duke Snider played out there, as did super athletes like Willie Davis. Pederson is the son of a former Dodger who had only four MLB at-bats and never got a hit. Dad dedicated himself to his children when his playing days were over and the results are on display in centerfield every night at Dodger Stadium. Joc Pederson looks like Jimmy Edmonds on defense, and he's the most powerful player in the National League on offense. There aren't many arguments against him. When the season began, some scouts claimed that he had no power against left-handed pitchers. That went out the window when he hit four HRs against lefties on four consecutive nights. We Dodger Dogs honestly believe that we have the best centerfielder in the NL right now, and he's still improving...
Jim Edmonds. Now there's a guy who was like fly paper in CF. Jim, thanks for reminding me that I got to see him play.
Jim Edmonds...I really hated that guy back in the early 2000's when the Astro's were regularily battling the Cards. I think it was in the 2005 Playoffs that he got tossed for arguing with the plate ump...it was a highlight for me! BTW: I saw someplace where the Dodgers had another Cuban down in the system who was going to be a star as soon as they bring him up.
re: Jimmy Edmonds I played high school ball with his father Joe. Jimmy was also a HSAA football player at Diamond Bar HS. He was quite an athlete and like Joc Pederson, he was created by his father and grandfather. Their success is not an accident: it was all planned. re: Cuban Dodgers The new front office team is spending so much money on Cubans, that other MLB teams are considering a draft for foreign players. Besides Yasiel Puig and Alex Guerrero, they also have 30 year-old Hector Olivera down in AAA. They're paying him $62 million and have announced that he will be brought up this year. Howie Kendrick at 2B and Jimmy Rollins at SS are just place holders for Olivera and Corey Seager. re: Dodger pitcher tonight Mike Bolsinger grew up in Chicago as a Cubs fan. He made his MLB debut last year with the Dbacks and beat the Cubs at Wrigley in front of his entire family who were there again last night...
