I know y'all don't care that much about women's hoops... But some of you may know that it looks like Purdue Coach Kristy Currey is headed to Texas Tech. She was there today, I believe, and had lunch with the athletic director and men's Coach Bobby Knight. Here is, uh, a rumored transcript of the lunch conversation copied from the Purdue Boards;  SCOOP: Transcript of Myers-Curry-Knight Lunch Meeting... If you think women's basketball means anything to me then get the f*** out of here. I mean, if you're not going to give my program priority Gerald Myers, if you're just gonna let Krispy Curly bring those girls into MY gym, and expect the real basketball players to step aside without one guy charging right through the girls' practices, then I'm leaving and you f***ing people will have to deal with Pat 'til you beg me to come back. Now I am tired of this s***. I'm sick and f***ing tired of girls that think they can slam dunk. I'm f***ing tired of losing to Purdue. I'm not here to f*** around this week. Now you may be, but I'm not. Now I am gonna f***ing guarantee you, that if Kelly Curry doesn't buy my dinner tonight, you aren't gonna believe the next four f***ing days. Now I am not here to take a back seat Krispy. Now you better f***ing understand that right now. This is absolute f***ing bulls***. Now I'll f***ing run your cute girls team right into the ground. I mean I'll f***ing run you, you'll think that flight was a f***ing free throw. I'm not about to sit around for a f***ing year watching the girls practice in this f***ing gym, and I mean you will not put me in that f***ing position, or you will godd*** pay for it like you can't f***ing believe. Now, you better get your head out of your a**.
LOL! Apparently, the job pays 3x what she is making at Purdue, plus she and her husband are both native Texans. She's done a great job at PU. They will miss her.
I think she really has done a great job, JO'Co, but some of my friends seem kind of luke warm and not all that upset that she's leaving. She had it kind of rough trying to replace Carolyn Peck after we won the NCAA and she has done a good job of keeping us in the top tier of women's programs. It will be tough to find someone as good or better, I think. stu
Stu, Somebody said that Curry was having problems that might bring in the NCAA, I seem to remember something with an assistant but nothing with Curry. But Purdue is the top of the food chain for Indiana HS girls who don't go to Tenn! So the job should be attractive and I'd be surprised if you didn't get another coach equally as competent. Terry
Interesting situation here in Indiana. First, let me observe that this must be Skybox record for posts on any topic involving womens basketball. Regarding the in-state situation, IU's first-year coach, Sharon Versyp, is a Purdue alum. She brought the IU program a long way this past season from where it had been. In fact, IU beat Purdue for the first time in several years. If Curry leaves and as a result Purdue hiccups in the in-state recruiting race, there could be a huge shift in the relative strength of womens college basketball in Indiana.
Lots of rumors...little info, Terry. It appears to involve questionable (or downright illegal) academic help from an assistant to a player...both are suspended pending investigation. stu
