Heard on radio that a guy and his friend in 1963 in HS looked up at an eclipse with one eye. The outcome was a permanent spot on the exposed eye. They felt no pain because the retina is burned but is not pain sensitive. The spot didn't show up until a day later. It hasn't affected his both-eyes sight or driving over the years, but he knows of people who had the same thing happen to both eyes, and they can't see well or drive.

I people watched. It was really awesome to see people of all colors, backgrounds and beliefs stopping to do the same thing together peacefully. We clearly need more solar eclipses.

The partial eclipse here looked like the head of a fiery wolverine swallowing a sinister looking letter "O".

A wonderful omen from the football gods.

Are you sure that circle was complete and it wasn't a G?

Traveled to Nashville to visit the grandkids and watch the totality.

Had a big eclipse watch party at football field of Nashville Christian School with all the kids and parents.

Hotter than heck...had some tents and umbrellas for shade. As the eclipse proceeded, the intensity of sun baking you decreased and you noticed that more than you did the altered light.

We only had one minute of totality where we were...but it was incredible. As much as I had read about what to expect, I was amazed. The brighter stars and planets came out...the sky was a weird dark purple. The eclipse looked like a big black hole in the sky with a beautiful corona around it. As you looked around you there was a twilight sunset appearance on the horizon 360 degrees around. Just before the totality we witnessed the "Shadow Snakes" which apparently are somewhat rare. You're supposed to have to use a sheet of paper or something to see them but these were so prominent that we could just look down and see them on the ground (it helped I'm sure that we were on a well manicured grass football field with a very uniform appearance).

As we left I got some pictures of the crescent images made by sunlight coming through the leaves of trees making natural pinhole camera effects on the sidewalk. I can't post them because they are still in my camera but it looked like this:

As AJ said...another item off of my bucket list.

Next eclipse in 2024 the totality goes through my town...I know where I'll be.

Took a couple quick photos; not real good but I was more interested in watching it than spending the whole minute trying to get a photo.
