funny you should ask, Don. I have one leg one inch longer then the other. Been that way for the last 77 years!
All I heard on the radio all the way home tonight was oldtimers calling in and telling tales of the great hurricane that hit Providence, Rhode Island in 1954. I should have called in too. I remember it very well. I was a few weeks short of my fifth birthday and I remember that we were stuck inside our house on Hope Street for more than week, because of downed power lines and fallen trees; one of which crushed the house next door. When we finally got out in our car, we couldn't go anywhere and I'll never forget seeing ocean ships downtown where the flooding had deposited them... Hang in there JIF, this could be another one.
Jim...Yes 1954 ( Carol) was big..but the grandaddy of all Rhode Island Hurricaines was the 1938 storm. 600 lives swept away. Downtown Prov was under 12 feet of water. ( They have since built a hurrricaine barrier to stop the Bay from coming into downtown.) Its been there 50 years and this will be the first real test for it. I think if you google 1938 Rhode Island hurricaine, it might contain the details. sooo... its off to the market soon for jugs of water...power is sure to be off for a few days. jif
jif, I have never experienced a hurricane and hope I never do, but hang in there and I truly hope things will not be as bad as predicted for you.
