 I think natives should kick out all the newbees and their ideas. the north needs the south and the south needs the north and the central needs both. California used to be a beautiful state I speak this as a 5th generation Californian and each section works together as one

All of the statewide office holders are NoCals from San Francisco. Everybody hates them and everybody hates Frisco, but the political machine they put together is too powerful to overcome. The Machine works hand in glove with the Teacher's Union and the other large public employee unions, to supply an inexhaustible stream of money and manpower for every election. The result of this situation has been that the Far-Left Democrats have a veto-proof majority in Sacramento, which can do anything it wants. Every policy and law of the last 20 years has failed, but there's no way to stop them. One in four Californians are now on welfare, while our schools rank down at the bottom with Mississippi. Farmers have been cut off from all water supplies; freeways are at a standstill; and unemployment is at Great Depression levels, while the Lefties build a bullet train to nowhere, that nobody will ride...

The people here are desperate for relief. We're tired of watching one small area of the third largest state grow fat, while everyone else starves. I'll vote for this proposal or any other that isolates the fascist animals in San Francisco from the real human beings in the rest of the state. I don't care if it divides the state into two parts; three; four; or ten parts. I want them out of my wallet...

The latest idea would create a new state called "Silicon Valley" which would marry San Francisco with the rich, technology area southeast of there. Good: let it be. I'm for any idea that isolates them and frees the rest of us. We have more oil and gas than Saudi Arabia; more corn and grain than the mid-west; more citrus than Florida and more technology than Germany. Bring it on. We'll be just fine without their interference...

The Congress will have the final say, and I know they'll never allow "California to have 12 senators"...but we're open to any and all ideas here. You might want to help us, you know. With the help of Chicago and New York, they're controlling national elections. You're next.

I have spent three weeks in California on business in the past two years traveling all over Sou. Ca. twice and North Central another trip and I am going back for a week in April to the bay area and north central again.

Prior to that in my previous job I spent approx. 10 nights in San Francisco, 120 nights in LA and 28 nights in Anaheim/Orange County.

It's a pretty diverse area in my opinion.... sophisticated coolness in SF, industrial ( to an extent ) blue collar friendliness away from the big cities, trendy but chaotic all over the map populace of LA along with it's horrible traffic all the way down to Orange County and a friendly, scenic I'm happy to live here atmosphere of San Diego.... my favorite Ca. town.

You could almost section it off because areas are so different.... but I think it would be a huge mistake as the state needs all area resources I believe to make a go of it.

Industry in Ca. has taken a hit due to overregulation but on the other hand I have smelled bad industrial smells in Ontario and witnessed terrible smog in LA so how do you find a happy balance?

As a 6th generation Californian, and one who deeply loves his home state, I'd vote for this.

Myself, and countless others, are as passionate about being Californians as Virginians are about being from Virginia. Even living in other states, we still identify ourselves as Californians. We didn't leave the state. The state left us.

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times. California is really 3 states. Northern, Central and Southern. If you really wanted to simplify it, you could go North and South, but there really are 3 distinct regions. The North runs the state, as JOCO so appropriately mentioned, through union extortion and legislative coercion. Having been around the continental 48, I've come to the conclusion that most folks don't truly have an understanding of California at all. The understand the image that is portrayed. The South is very fiscally conservative, while being rather liberal socially. The Central is very fiscally and socially conservative. The North is (and this is an official term) OFF THE ******* RESERVATION NUTS. They are that allegedly theoretical 'left' that is really fascist socialism. The reason why they've lasted longer than the Soviet Union is that they could continue to exploit the resources of the other 2 region for financial gain.

Like a lot of modern American "liberal" philosophies, they tend to be short sighted. I'm with JOCO on this. If the Bay Area wants Silicon Valley, then you go right on ahead and take it. If you can manage to get the grubby little fingers of NoCal out of SoCal pockets, you'll see a turnaround in the SoCal economy in my life time.

Another thing I've pointed to countless times that seems to go unnoticed is the gerrymandering that took place in the 90s that gave the Democrats power in both the North and South. The best microcosm of that is Bob Dornan. He was shocked when Loretta Brixey dropped her married name and used her maiden name, Sanchez after switching parties to become a Democrat. (You can't make this **** up)

Part of this is the GOPs fault. They simply do not realize the conservative nature of the Hispanic and black vote. They let themselves get beat on social issues. At the same time, without that cheating and ballot stuffing by illegals, we don't have the shift.

Anti-Gun California Political Powerhouses Indicted On Corruption Charges

    Corruption runs in the family

    Via Examiner

California State Senator Ron Calderon and his brother, former Assemblyman Tom Calderon, have been indicted on political corruption charges resulting from an FBI investigation, the Los Angeles Daily News/Whittier Daily News reported Friday, citing what officials call “the largest insurance fraud case to date in California.

“Sen. Ron Calderon was charged … with fraud, bribery, conspiracy to commit money laundering, money laundering and aiding in the filing of false tax returns,” the report explains. “His brother, Tom Calderon, a former Assemblyman, was also charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering and money laundering.

“The charges seemed certain to tarnish the Calderon clan, a political dynasty that’s long held power in southeast Los Angeles County,” the report predicted.

That power within the Calderon’s “political web” is further elaborated by The Los Angeles Times in a report yesterday detailing “The Calderon family’s connections,” and featuring not just Tom and Ron, but also brother Charles, a former assemblyman and state senator, and his son Ian, 27, “who became the assemblyman representing Whittier in 2012.”

In a development tangentially related to the corruption charges, a $25,000 contribution last year by “Yes We Can,” a political committee tied to the California Latino Legislative Caucus, a group Thomas Calderon was vice chair of, to Californians for Diversity, a nonprofit group that in 2011 listed him as president, was “raising eyebrows around the Capitol,” The Los Angeles Times reported in October. Not only had Calderon’s group not filed tax returns for 2012 at the time of that report, but concerns were raised over the inordinate amount of expenditures for “travel and food and beverages [and] entertainment for public officials.” That prompted Kathy Feng, executive director of the “progressive” advocacy group California Common Cause, to assess “that Californians for Diversity is a nonprofit that does not have a clear charity or social benefit purpose. I am also concerned that this nonprofit may have been created just to serve as a pass-through for money.”

You're right... I haven't been in downtown LA in 5 years now but I was in Santa Monica last June.....stayed at the Sheraton on W. Pico there a few blocks from the Pacific.... and ate dinner and had a couple of drinks at The Lobster on Santa Monica pier as the sun went down..... which is always a great experience.

A month ago I was up in the Corona/Ontario area and that 's where I caught that acrid industrial smell.

Didn't smell like cattle unless it was possibly fertilizer etc.

Lots of big buildings up in Ontario but maybe they are just mere distribution facilities.... didn't check them out.

Only drilling along the coast . I used to manage a warehouse for Lodge Mfg. and Lee Rowan among others.

Venice Beach I agree with as not much more than tourist city.

Santa Monica I love for what it is regardless...

The Lobster has good food.... I used to know the bartender at a great bar there which is where I eat and watch the sunset.

Then....I head across Ocean Drive to the corner bar formerly known as Rebeccas and which still is a rockin place today.... full mostly of local girls.....whose character I remember Corey questioning once before but hey.....it's fun anyway.

It should be mentioned, and I believe it was, but it's worth mentioning again... California voted to split once before. It passed. The item was tabled by Congress because of the Civil War.

    The problem never went away.

Been to Gladstones.....but The Lobster is a short cab ride from the Sheraton and then Rebeccas is a couple of blocks away after that.

I leave the rental car at the hotel whenever possible in the evenings.

2nd Highest Ranking State Dem in Cali Busted on Gun Charges That He Helped Write

    Home - by BigFurHat - March 26, 2014 - 19:35 America/New_York - 29 Comments

    utsandiego

A California state senator who authored gun control legislation asked for campaign donations in exchange for introducing an undercover FBI agent to an arms trafficker, according to court documents unsealed Wednesday.

The allegations against State Sen. Leland Yee were outlined in an FBI affidavit in support of a criminal complaint. The affidavit accuses Yee of conspiracy to deal firearms without a license and to illegally
    import firearms.

Yee is also accused of accepting tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions and cash payments to provide introductions, help a client get a contract and influence legislation.

Yee discussed helping the agent get weapons worth $500,000 to $2.5 million, including shoulder fired automatic weapons and missiles, and took him through the entire process of getting them from a Muslim separatist group in the Philippines to the United States, according to the affidavit by FBI Special Agent Emmanuel V. Pascua.

    Taxifornia Strikes Again

    Home - by BigFurHat - April 27, 2014 - 20:11 America/New_York - 13 Comments

    Pando

California’s inhospitable tax policies may have struck again, this time costing Los Angeles one of its largest employers. According to multiple sources close to the situation, Toyota will be relocating its US headquarters from the LA suburb of Torrance to Plano, Texas.

The company has yet to notify its employees of the news, but is expected to do so Monday, followed by a public announcement. While it’s unlikely that Toyota, which is ranked 8th on Fortune’s Global 500, will directly cite taxes as the reason for its relocation, it should come as little surprise that the financial burden of operating in California – both on the corporation and its employees personally – played a major role.
