The Fans and Football Writers are done with Tom Coughlin as the Giants coach, they want Charlie Weis. Charlie has made it abundantly clear that he has the job he always wanted and is commited to finishing the job of returning Notre Dame to the elite of college football. I don't think any amount of money can lure Charlie out of South Bend. Maybe Charlie can use all of this hub-bub to his advantage with the finish of this years recruiting. These kids all want to be prepped for the NFL, who better to do that than a guy who has 4 Super Bowl Rings, and is the coach that the NFL Giants want to revive their team. Seems like that is the guy any high school kid should want to play for.

There's a similar drumbeat out here for Pete Carroll to go to the Arizona Cardinals. The NFL is used to getting its way...

I would imagine that Carroll will be sorely tempted by the NFL, if for no other reason than he failed twice as a HC in the NFL and I'm sure he'd like to prove them all wrong. But at USC he has a job where he will lose only 1 or 2 games a year max, and in most years he will compete for the Nat'l Championship. I'm sure he makes plenty of money. He sits in the middle of a motherload of talent, he's at a University that will sell it's soul for a football player who has a good 40 time, or has a strong arm, etc. So he can recruit the best players without academic considerations. Most college teams in a big city like L.A. are second banana to the NFL, but there is no NFL in So. Cal so that makes USC and Pete the top of the heap in football.

We're seeing why that extension for CW was so important last year. It also helps in recruiting.

The problem as I see it, is that this story will run on Sports Center and it will get morphed 2nd and 3rd hand to kids by opposing coaches that Weis is negotiating with the Giants or something like that. Bottom line our coach will be here for you, Charlie Weis has one foot out the door.

Charlie has several times denied any interest. He should call ESPN and do an interview quashing any rumours.

Come on Charlie, use it. "Who do you want to play for? Someone that the NFL wants or someone that they don't consider and is only good at spreading false rumors?"

This afternoon on WFAN in NYC they were touting Bill Cowher as a possible successor to Coughlin.
