2 kids from my club qualified for the finals in Augusta Sunday of the annual PGA Drive, Chip, and Putt competition. Charlie Danuloff is a nine year old boy who's Dad is a friend of mine...Nicole Adams is in the 12-14 y/o girls division and grew up here. She has had a lot of sucess in junior tournaments. Her parents recently moved to Pinehurst so she can play year round but we still claim her. The chipping and putting are at the practice facility; then the putting competition is held on the 18th green. My friend Rob is caddying for his son. Afterwards all contestants are invited to stay for Monday's practice round and meet many of the players. It will be on the Golf Channel at 9AM on Sunday.
I watched it for a little while last night on the Golf Channel. Must be very exciting for the parents/friends/kids...not so much for me watching. Watched about 3 kids putt and moved on to something else.
I've watched the competition in the past. First of all, I really was impressed with the skill of some of the kids. They not only bomb it off the tee but they have a nice touch around the green. Second, it was nice to see some of the pros like Bubba stop by and talk to the kids. The kids love it and it really adds to the competition. I give Augusta and the PGA props for doing this.
