Well the FSU vs. Boise game is now in Tallahassee at noon on Sat instead of in Jax. at 7 on Sat night. I'm glad UF-Miami was played last weekend.....
I think the LSU AD offered..... but FSU would have had to play three other home games there in the next two years.... lol
It sure looks like that on Sat it's going to be still a long ways from Jacksonville. Won't actually hit Fla till Monday.
This storm changes my agenda. Earlier this year I signed up with a company OSR that does damage assessment for electric utilities after a storm. I was an employee of Florida Power and Light for just under 30 years when I took and early retirement during a reorg in 1993 and turned to teaching math at a community college. A job I really loved by the way. Anyway I have a long background in the construction and maintenance of electric lines and when attending a breakfast in Florida this past March with a lot of ex employees at a service center where I was the supervisor for a number of years and my favorite job of all that I had at FPL. Had a great time and a representative of this company was there looking for people to work for them. The work is only after a storm and for a fairly short period of time. A number of the folks there and done the work and loved it. There is a team of a driver and an inspector and you can sign up as a team, so Jeanne and I did. To make a long story short unless something happens I will be leaving here for Florida within the next few days and will probably spend a week or so doing the inspections as needed. Jeanne can't go because her sister who lives here is not well but they got me another driver. Not sure if I will like it or not but the money is pretty good for a short time and I will likely see people I have not seen in some time so it's also an adventure. So I will disappear sometime in the next few days and will be absent for a week or so. I know don't tell me that my absence has been pretty regular and I am trying to correct that. It may affect my entering the pickem contest next week, but even so I expect to participate after that anyway. Maybe I will get lucky and find a way to get my entry in. Rambling note but hey I'm not an English Professor but a Math guy, that side of my brain doesn't function as well as the math side.
Be safe Bill, hoping it jogs north and spares everyone hardship. Gotta say we are still recovering from Irma in all kinds of ways don’t need another storm destroying livelihoods.
Good for you, Bill. You're stepping outside your retirement comfort zone to perform much needed post-storm recovery work. I admire that. I know you're getting paid, but it must be something other than compensation to move you to leave Jeanne and retirement temporarily to do this work.
Thanks Sid and Terry. Jeanne and I signed on as a team but circumstances keeps her home this time. And yes it's more than compensation, I expect to see some old friends and make some new ones. But the money doesn't hurt. Will try to do a JO'Co write up when I get back.
Hey Bill, if you're anywhere The Villages let me know. You're more than welcome here and I'd be happy to meet you somewhere if that's easier.
A very interesting turn of events for you Bill. I think it is great that you are starting on that new adventure. Keep us informed when you can.
Thanks Gipper but I think the likelihood is that we would be in the West Coast and the hours are very long. But it it works out I will be in touch. Thanks for the kind invitation.
Hey gipper, just where in the Villages are you? If I remember correctly the Villages cover a very large area. It was a very kind invitation and I would really like to see you, however I suspect my time is going to be pretty regimented and long days. But in case and for this and future reference I would like to know where you are and how to contact you. I just sent up a pm on Skybox, started a conversation with my information. And if you are ever in Western North Carolina we would like to see you. And that goes for other skyboxers if you are ever this way.
This waiting around to see what's going to happen and if you're gonna lose power or not is a grind. Also.... the memory of Irma stalling and sliding south and west before turning up north is a little unsettling until this thing finally decides where it's going....
Bill, Thank you for your service to the community and to those who will most likely be in such great need.
Dave I have to say that even worse was being trapped for two days by power lines and downed power poles then getting to the job site and realizing $2 million dollars was on the ground, Irma was not very nice. Power came back on thankfully after seven days with the help of the utility guys
