Bill, That decision was made last week after the clock management issues in the Missouri game. The Vandy debacle just required making the decision public before the end of the season.
The story is out on GoVolsExtra.com Dooley is out - Jim Chaney named interim head coach for the Kentucky game
If you don't sell your souls to go after Golden, you're crazy. I'd make sure you give Gruden a call as well, but when he says no you should spare no cost in trying to take Golden out of Miami
As a "long time" Cane fan I would hate to see Golden leave us because he is the real deal and quite impressive. But if you are a long time fan of the Hurricanes you know coaches come and coaches go as fast as a star recruit. The honest truth is the Miami job has been nothing but a sad sack of unexpected troubles for Golden and the staff he brought with him. Yes the talent is there and he has brought it closer than Shannon did before him and you sit on the Mecca of high school talent in South Florida high schools. But compared to the power houses known and unknown in college football the school cannot compete in what it has to offer to the top notch student athlete. The school is small, private and located in an area where tourist run to beaches, aquariums, golf, the party scene, pro football, NHL hockey, pro baseball, pro basketball, fishing, etc, etc.... They have no stadium of their own and use one 45 miles away in another county that is designed for 85,000 fans on a pro football facility. The guillotine has been released but not landed yet on infractions that include the president of the university on down. Speaking of the president of the university she has decided that semi-pro sports such as college is not the direction she intends on going and wants to make the school the Stanford of the Southeast. So if Golden left it would not come as a surprise to this fan and I take Corey mentioning it as a compliment to our current coach...
Ralph, ABSOLUTELY a compliment. I wouldn't even dare mention it if not for the pending NCAA investigation/hammer that may befall the Canes here shortly. At this point in time, that's the best coach out there who is at a program that has almost everything in terms of talent/money but still has some baggage from the previous regime that could impact the job he could do. Golden is the guy who got away and I believe it forever impacted Weis's run at ND (people forget he was Charlie's pick for DC but turned it down). He won at Temple and he did so without ******** and gimmicks. You know full well the job he's doing at Miami and what he was up against when he took the job. Honestly, Tennessee would be lucky to hire him. I can't imagine anyone out there being a better hire than Golden...but if he's not interested, he's not interested.
Petrino Cutcliffe Sonny Dykes Kirby Smart OC at Stanford (forget his name) Franklin at Vandy Fulmer (seriously!) Gruden
Golden and a blank check. You won't regret it. There's regret or a question attached to every guy on that list. Golden will restore winning and honor to Knoxville. If I'm UT's AD, I do not take no for an answer.
I was speaking yesterday with a very good friend who has just moved to Knoxville for a job and he lives in downtown a few blocks from the stadium. He was impressed this fall by the Vol Navy......the Orange turn-out and general excitement downtown for a big UT game like Bama a few weeks ago. It conjures up a vision of a university that is steeped in football tradition but a fan and alumni base that just hasn't been getting it's money's worth for several seasons running now. I know Tenn will be back......just a matter of when they finally get the right guy.....which isn't always an easy thing to do.
The Daily Trojan is calling for Little Kiffin to be canned. Maybe he'll fill out a Tennessee application! http://dailytrojan.com/2012/11/18/it-might-be-time-for-a-coaching-change/
Read the article..... hey mebbe it's time for ole Lanie Boy to accept his true position in life as a very good offensive coordinator and bring his Gator honey of a wife back down to Gainesville where she belongs... What the hell...... we sure have been stuck in the mud offensively since Tebow left so why not...right? Just sayin...... 8) Heck..... next time when we go to Tenn we can sing "We are the Boys" all night long from Rocky Top..... right Lane?
Yes! Let him step back into Knoxville. We've got good ole boys out there where the roads change location based upon the last rain fall. There will be more laser dots hitting his face that there was on Steve Spurrier the last time he was on the sideline in Neyland as the Gator coach. Dave, you want him, you got him.
One option that is being tossed around is keeping the interim coach until Peyton is available. Doubt that will happen. With the last coach search, I am scared to see who we come up with.
