The end of the Russ Meyer clip reminded me of my wedding night.

Quentin Tarantino was obviously influenced by Meyer.

F4U Corsair taking off from the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino, California. I grew up in Chino, which is just one mile south of here and I've been to this museum several times. When they put on air shows or practice their maneuvers on weekends, the action takes place in the sky right over my house.

Also at the Chino PoF: the world's only flying Japanese Zero! BTW- the pilots of these planes are known locally as "The Rich Kids." Every flight costs five figures and up...

Ah, the F4U... one of the most misunderstood designs of flighter plane history. I've heard people discuss several theories as to why the wings had such a unusual design. ... and chuckled at most. The design had nothing to do with increased lift, or higher maneuverability. It was simply to provide the height necessary for take off and landing with that huge propeller especially for beach landings in the south pacific.

And the Zero. The plane from a country that cared nothing about the survivability of a pilot in a dog fight. It lightened the aircraft to make it more maneuverable in dog fights at the expense of cockpit shielding. The only thing that would stop a simple .45 cal round from a hand gun was the body of the pilot after it tore through the paper thin skin of the plane. That building process came long before the desperate actions taken by the kamikaze.

    re: Zero

Great comments on the Japanese Zero, which are all true. It was designed by Howard Hughes, but it was rejected by the Army Air Corps. It received a second chance at life when the design was stolen and then copied for the Japanese Navy by Mitsubishi.
